Buying a new house - what is on your "shopping list"?

In our next home I either must have a dish washer or a space in the kitchen that will allow for a dishwasher to be installed - We've lived in our home 12 (yes 12!!!) years and there is NO dishwasher. I've been washing them in the sink by hand for 12 (yes 12!!!) years. :-)

My extras would be at least another 1/2 bath - we only have 1.

A 3rd bedroom - we only have 2.

My ultimate dream is a home with a nice enclosed or screened front porch.

Well, I'm off to wash some dishes now.

I'll let you know what I like and what I want.

1. HUGE walk-in pantry
2. Lots of counter space & cabinets (42")
3. Spot for extra large fridge
4. Family room off kitchen (have it & love it)
5. His/Her walk-in closets in master suite (necessary for my marriage)
6. 4 car garage
7. large lot
8. media room
9. all private or jack-n-jill baths

We're apartment hunting now, but my 2 current must haves in a house are 1) a fireplace, and 2) a 2 car garage. I hate parking my car outside.

Now you did say "DREAM HOUSE" right? After buying a fixer-upper (1st house), then building one, and now we are in our 3rd house (brand new Spec house)....our list is LONG.:rotfl:

I also would like an outdoor kichen area.

Oh yea...we may build and get some of this but not all of it. One of these days!!!!;)

OOOH! An outdoor kitchen area would be great. I hear ya about the long list. Our last house was only 1300 sq. ft. Granted, there are only 3 of us, but man, that place was CRAMPED! Funny how you don't realize how bad it was until you move out, huh?

In no particular order:

Fenced yard (tall privacy fence)

Large kitchen, good counter space and plenty of storage

2 and 1/2 bath (power room downstairs, 1 main bath and 1 master bath upstairs)

Full basement

2 car garage (attached or not)

A neighboorhood with lots trees. Some developers scrimp on the trees. And I'm not talking saplings, but larger more mature trees.

A house located on a cul-de-sac, court, or a street that isn't used as a short cut. All the houses I've every lived on have been the "short cut" street between two busier roads.

2 car garage, bigger kitchen with an island (I would love to have a pot rack hanging above), 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, an extra room for an office, bigger yard with a great big deck. :thumbsup2

School district was important to us too. We were lucky that we had several to choose from in our area so that wasn't a real big issue.

One thing I forgot to mention was that we didn't want too big of a house. We could have gotten a little bit bigger place but I didn't want anything too big either. There's only 3 of us and the cooling costs will kill you if you have a big house! We tried to find a good balance and got reasonably close.

Tell me about it! My thinking in a too-large house is that I have to clean that sucker. And Mo aint no cleaner, if you get my drift. I HAVE been getting better lately, though. (no. REALLY) ;)
