Buying a new car with Disney Visa

What are the Disney points worth? There are many cards that will give you 2% back. Does Disney give you more than 2% back?

That's awesome that your dealership will let you do that. Have a great time redeeming the reward for something special.

great idea. we wanted to do this when we got my yaris a few years back. the dealer had a limit of 5k they would let us put on a card. so we aske if we could put 5k on one and 5k for mine. they said only one card per transaction so we put the 5k on hubby's and wrote a check for the rest. hey we also had saved so we could pay cash and it didn't hurt to ask right? we still got Disney dream dollars for part of it

I echo the sentiment on here that there are much better cards to put your purchase on than the Disney Visa. The Disney Visa rewards structure is poor for non-Disney purchases.

Consider one of the many 2% cash back cards or travel rewards cards that will get you a substantial sign up bonus in addition to the points from the Visa

I'm going to agree with other posters.

I was only allowed to put $3000 on a card last year. I'd be surprised if you are actually able to pay for the whole car that way.
With such a large purchase, I'd find a better card, probably one with a nice sign up bonus.

I just put my down payment ($5000) on my credit card. From the discussion we were having with the sales guy, it didn't sound like that particular dealership had a limit.

And we used our Disney visa; only 1% in points, but I wasn't applying for another credit card just to get an additional $50.

with higher cost items (usually vehicles, large appliances and electronics) i'll anonymously research ahead of time if a particular store/company takes our reward type credit cards and if there's a cap on it so I know where I stand before I start negotiations. that way I can use the cards BUT I can also use it as a final negotiation point and ask if they will give me an even further discount if I opt NOT to use my credit card. I've found many retailers who will take the amount down to match what they will save in merchant transaction fees, and since that also additionally brings down the taxes on it I end up ahead of what I would reap in reward points or cash back rewards. I recently did this with a purchase that was best priced at about $6800 before sales tax. b/c the business was willing to drop their price by the amount of their merchant fee (3%) I ended up saving (between price and tax) about $225. a 1% or 2% reward on the best negotiated price using a credit card would have only netted me about $75-$150. I would rather have the extra money in pocket.

with some purchases though i'll only go to a place that accepts american express b/c of american express's extended warranty coverage (doesn't extend to vehicles) but when we purchased our car we used the costco program which my research showed was absolutely the lowest price we could get so I didn't care that the dealer capped the amount so I still got a small reward back plus the service and parts gift certificates costco sends for using the program.
