Buying a Kindle in th US for use in UK?

Does anybody know if this is possible?

There are a wider range of models available in the US which I would prefer but obviously it will be used with an Amazon.co.uk account.

Don't take this as gospel as it's information from a sales person at Best Buy but I was told there would be issues using an American only Kindle to buy books in the UK.

Don't ask me what the issues are, I decided to get myself an iPad instead.

I bought a Kindle 4 at the Best Buy in the US 2 weeks ago and had no problem registering it to my Kindle account on the Amazon UK site.

I have the kindle app on my iphone and always download books from the US site
