Finally it was our last day. I have never before wanted to get out of Disney but this time was so different. I want to go back to Massachusetts so I can come back Home!

I drove the car to the Dolphin first thing to return it. We had a Saturn Ion. What a great vehicle! And once again let me recommend Nova, the place we rented from. If you like to save money, give them a try!

The car drop off was easy and I had lots of time so I wandered over to the Boardwalk. Even at just after 8 a.m. it was in the upper 70’s. My trip took me through the YC, by SAB and into the lobby of the BC. Holy Cow! They had a bunch of Christmas decorations up including the big tree. I left there shaking my head wondering how it got to be November already.

I was going to bus over to MGM and get an ASMusic bus from there. At the Y&BC you either walk to MGM or take the boat. I cut back through the hotel and waited for the boat.

Once we docked at MGM I went over to the ticket window to ask about the Florida AP’s. I’ll need a FL license or utility bill proving residency. I want the Premium pass which is pricey (I love TL!) but still nearly $100 less that the out of state PAP. Then it was back to the hotel.

DH and I caught the 12:35 bus to the airport. One of our stops was at PC. That place is huge!

Our flight left right on time. A big storm with high winds was heading towards New England and I was concerned there might be delays. Logan airport in Boston closes all but one runway if the winds get too strong. It backs everything up all along the East Coast when that happens.

As things turned out, we landed around 6 p.m. just as the storm was starting to get its act together.

We had another great and fun flight. The husband started whining, “I want to go home” (back to Auburndale) on the plane. Now we’re both doing it here in MA. We took the shuttle bus from Logan to Braintree and when we pulled into the terminal I was ready to call my son to pick us up. However, he was already there. What a kid! Just another bit of magic in this very special trip.

Since I’ve been home, we’ve learned that the company we bought the house from will give us the entire agreed upon amount to fix the problems the inspector found.

Now the real work begins and I’ve got less than 3 weeks to finish packing and doing about a million other things. Whatever angel has been sitting on my shoulder the past several months hopefully will hold on for a few more weeks.

Despite the stress and worry of moving 1,200 miles, this is my dream and a very special time. I want to enjoy every minute of it!

High Points – My experience with Nova.
The flight back to MA.
My son being at the bus station when we arrived.

Low Point – Wearing cold weather clothes in 80-degree heat because you’re going home.

Weird Point – Christmas decorations.

Best Point – Knowing I’ll be back here for good in 3 weeks and all the fun things waiting for me to do!

Thanks for the great trip report! Good luck with your move! I'm so jealous, I wish that I was moving to Florida.... :teeth:

Your house in your signature looks wonderful! Good luck with all your packing and I'm sending wishes for a safe and great move.

:sunny:

Congratulations on your purchase and blessings upon you as you undertake the big move! Keep us updating, as I'm sure it will be a fascinating read!

I don't want to be nosey, and you don't have to answer, but what are you and your husband going to do for jobs?

My husband isn't working right now due to health problems. As for me, I've been out of work since I got injured some 7 years ago at work. I hurt my already bad back. Even up in MA, I am nearly pain free during the summer. My hope is that with moderate to down right blazing hot temperatures year round in Florida, I'll be able to go back to work. Perhaps, 32 hours at Disney?

Even my husband is hoping that the milder weather will positively influence his Parkinson's symptoms and he may be able to work a little bit each week.

Congratulations on your new home. I can remember this time last year coming to Orlando looking at homes. I looked at 30 homes over a long weekend. I found our house #25 and made an offer the next day.

We moved from PA in less than a month. That last week before we moved I wondered what I had gotten myself into.

The day after the moving van came( day was unseasonably warm) that night it started to snow and we got about a foot of snow. It was a horrible weekend. I stayed in a hotel and had a hard time getting back to the house for the final walk through.

After the closing on Monday I flew to Orlando. My kids had driven the cars down ahead of me.

I was so excited to know that I was leaving the snow and cold behind. It has been a wonderful year in FL.

I flew to Boston last week and got to see snow flurries. That was enough for me.

The days will fly by and you will be tired but it will be so worth it when you are here in beautiful sunny warm Florida.

Good luck with everything.

Congrats on being able to move down. I was stationed in Tampa for two years and it was great. To further being nosey can you tell me how you could afford to move and to buy such a nice looking house. Thanks for the report I can't till I get down there is December.

The biggest reason was sheer luck! We bought our house in MA when the market was low. Seven years later we had made a 63% profit on the amount we paid. Add in to that the fact that homes in Florida are much less than this area and you have our situation. We've figured that the Florida house that we paid $130K for would be worth close to 300K up here in Massachusetts  Our local housing market is insane!

Things will be tight over the next few months. While we were able to buy the house in Florida and not have any mortgage, I won't be sitting in front of the TV and eating bonbons all day. I need to find a job ASAP!

Working for Disney is my dream but I may get something closer to where we're living and save Disney World for my fun (not work) place.

Congratulations on your new home. I know how exciting it is moving to FL
from up North. My husband and I just moved to our dream house in FL from NY in Sept. Unfortunately, we got here the day hurricane JEANNE hit so that put quite a damper on things, but now the skies have cleared the weather is gorgeous and we are settling into our beautiful new home nicely. Of course, now being FL residents we went to Disney this week and purchased our Resident Annual Passes. It was so surreal getting in our car and driving the short distance there instead of planning a trip a year in advance. We plan on making good use of our passes and taking many visits this year. We look forward to going with family and friends who will be visiting us from up North. :earsgirl:

thanks for the reports and congratulations and best wishes with the new home!

Oh Roberta...I'm sooooo happy for you and your hubby! And very jealous!! Now your son is moving with you also...did I read an earlier thread saying that?
Did you sell your home in Brockton already?
sorry for the questions..just wondering!

Hope your move goes well...did I tell you just how jealous I am?
I'll be in the world right behind you..in just a few short weeks...if you need anything from MA...just let me know! Maybe you could meet some of us DISers during the MouseFest...maybe Sat. the 10th at the Dolphin!

Did I mention....just how envious I am of you?? :)
(someday my prince will come......and take me to Florida!!)

Thanks for the information. That was a great deal with your house. I am glad that you got this chance. I work for Uncle Sam and have been trying to find a job that I can transfer to but no jobs there. Congratualtions on your new home have fun, I know you will.

We sold our home here in Brockton in about 2 weeks. Pretty fast but really the norm for houses in this area. My son is coming with us which will be nice. He knows the area around Orlando quite well. When he was living there he drove a cab. His lovely girlfriend will be joining us in the Spring.

I am planning on attending MouseFest and most likely will be there on that Saturday. Actually I'm planning on going to Disney at least once a week. I'm taking one day and putting it aside as my Mouse day. :teeth: You know like Sunday I go food shopping, Monday is laundry day, Tuesday I clean the house and Wednesday I go to Disney World. Works for me! ::yes::

Yeah, but are you envious?? :p I've wanted to make this move for about 20 years now. Start forming a plan and you might be surprised just how fast things work out.

Roberta

Roberta, hope I get to meet you at MouseFest! We just moved here from CT this past May. We are actually building a house in Leesburg, which is to the north on 27. We absolutely love it here!
We bought our WDW AP's 1st thing, & we do go frequently, usually once/week! Friends from the north have asked us if we're bored yet! Ha! Not a chance! Of course, we also have AP's to all the other area parks as well!
Good luck with your move. It's a lot of work, but it's all worth it!

I've thoroughly enjoyed your adventure over the Boards...thanks for taking the time during a very hectic few months to share with us.
About the job--I'd get on that ASAP (I was out of work for 5 months due to a corporate layoff and it's changed my perspective a bit on jobs). You may have better luck since you aren't looking for FT work, but with the recent storms and resulting low tourism, many places of business won't be fully up and running for some time and may not hire back all they once had. Try the 24 hour retail or service operations if you can be flexible with your hours. I'm sure they would like a mature, work oriented person in their work family. You could parlay that experience into applying for Disney work in time and there you go!!
Have a great Thanksgiving Day in your new home:wave: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:
