I was just wondering what's the shortest amount of time that someone has purchased their dress?
and do the bridal shops get upset with you for waiting so long?

I am a very indecisive person and I kinda want to wait til the last minute to get mine
that way I don't end up with 2 dresses or rethinking my descision!
I've already changed my ceremony location 4 times, reception location twice,
favors a dozen times or so and the farwell dinner about 5 times!
So I really don't want to go through all this with my dress.

Have you gone to bridal salons and looked at dresses to find out their timelines? I did this and found that different designers take different amounts of time to finish a dress. The season that it was ordered in can also come into play if it was ordred during a busier time period. I was told that my dress could take between 4-6 months to arrive, it arrived in about 4 months. However I ordered mine 10 months before my wedding.

My adivce would be to look around, find out timelines and see how long you could wait before placing your order. That way you don't have any reason to flip-flop about your dress choice. Obviously don't wait too long or you might not be satisfied with your choice due to time constaints.

Exactly.:thumbsup2 Mine is supposed to take almost 4 months as well...and don't forget to leave time for your alterations...

Mine is taking about 6 months. As was said before, I think different shops and designers have different times, it might be worth looking into now.

from what i remember from my friends wedding last year is that anything under 3months is not do-able unless you pay big bucks for a rush & they wont guaruntee that it arrivesin time

i'd call the salon & ask to be safe...you dont want to miss the opp to have your dream dress

good luck:thumbsup2

Are there still places where you can buy off the rack? I know there were many years ago when I was looking at wedding dresses. If you have access to a place like that, the you can wait until the very last moment, but you'd still need to allow time for alterations most likely.

I went into my local Bridal shop. Saw my dream dress, tried it on, it fit perfect and bought it. So I'm sure there are more stores like this.

Yes, you can buy "off the rack." The bridal boutique where I got mine has an outlet in the storefront behind them and they sell the gowns "as is." My friend's sister got hers that way and it only needed minor alterations and repair on the beading so she got it - a $600 gown for $175!

I started shopping for a gown 7 months before my wedding. Mine was made to my measurements and didn't require alterations. They said it would be 4-6 months and it came in right at the 4 month mark. I still would have had time if it had needed alterations, but if it had taken 6 months it would have been pushing it.

Oh, also try places like J. Crew - they have goregous gowns and can ship them overnight.

My second gown (the one I wore for my wedding) was bought off the rack. I walked into the store, and tried it on. Luckily for me (I bought it 1 month before the wedding) it fit perfectly! No alterations needed....

Good luck!

I ordered at the last possible minute. They told me 14-16 weeks, and it came in about 16 weeks...which was just 1 month before the wedding! Barely enough time for alterations...(and I needed a lot due to stress weight loss...)

I ordered mine about 10 weeks before my wedding and I had to pay a small fortune for the rush! I travel for work so I had very little time to look for a dress. If I had more time I would have liked to have found an off the rack place!

I just ordered my (second) dress last week and I was told it will be in before July 28. I called several shops and they all said that 3 months was plenty of time, although I'm sure it depends on the dress.

I've been working at David's for a while now and before that I worked at another mom & pop bridal salon. I recomend at least 6 months. I have helped many brides get a dress a month before the wedding and have had 3 get their dress the day of the wedding, so it can be done. However the longer you wait the less options you will have and the more money you may to pay. I would at least start looking now to get some ideas. Good Luck! :)

Thanks all....
The whole dress thing kinda freaks me out, I havn't worn one since my grade school graduation...lol
I'm more excited about buying my shoes.....I LOVE SHOES!!

I know that there are a few stores around me that you can buy off the rack, and I do have some ideas about what I want ,but I guess it's time to go do the dreaded dress shopping!!!
