I'm looking to buy a small digital camera and with so many out there, have no clue where to start. I have a Kodak right now but it's so big, I have been leaving it at home and buying disposable cameras that are smaller when I go anywhere. I want one that will fit in my pocket but still take great pics. I can't think of the name of it but I saw a commercial about a camera that looked great the one with the fairy in it. the one where he took a pic of a hummingbird without looking through the lens. What camera was that?

Any other suggestions about what kind of camera to buy are welcome!

I would like one with at least 5 MP's and X3 optical zoom. TIA

let's start with budget: what is your budget.

then we move on to brands: don't buy Kodak.

I would like to spend under $150. I have a Kodak Easy Share now and I absolutely LOVE it. It's just too big. I want a compact one that I can fit in my pocket.

from one of my articles, in respond to your Kodak EsyShare being bulky / heavy:

"my camera is too heavy"

No it's not. MY camera maybe, but definitely not yours.

Someone mentioned that her RebelXT with battery grip with Sigma 18-125 lens is very heavy. Well, heavy is relative. That combination is already lighter than my previous Rebel w/ battery grip w/ Sigma 18-125 lens. Now I'm literally running around with 30D w/ battery grip w/ Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS including the metal tripod collar for up to 8 hours.

It's only a matter of getting used to a certain weight.

This may sound crass but my advice for people who thinks their carry-around dSLR to be heavy is "get used to it!". Literally.

if the budget is under $150 and a Kodak Easyshare is too big, I got nothing to say.

Sorry, but I think pencil and drafting paper is the only way to go.

Ya know, my mom always said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. I don't appreciate your sarcasm and will look elsewhere for help.

an other article on Kodak (which I wrote)

Kodak point and shoots (is there any other kind?), why people still buy them - a rant

I don't understand people's fixation on the Kodak brand. There are so many far-better cameras out there and people still buy those junk.

The following are facts about Kodak cameras:

1. High digital noise at ISO 100 and up.
Their ISO 100 noise is equivalent to other manufacturer's ISO 200. Their ISO 400 noise is worse than Canon's ISO 800. I'm comparing point-and-shoot vs point-and-shoot at the same price level.

2. Cheaply built.
Granted there are cheaply built Canon, cheaply built Nikon and so forth. However, at the same price level, Kodak is ALWAYS built worse than their competitors.

3. Proprietary docking bay.
This is stupid. Who needs docking bay? Spend $1 and get a USB cable!

4. Overly saturated and artificial colours.
If you like unnatural looking colours, Kodak is great. If you want natural looking pictures, forget it.

3. Worst camera surrounding a good idea: Kodak EasyShare One/6MP

The good news is that the Kodak EasyShare One/6MP does Wi-Fi extremely well, so you can e-mail, print and share photos directly from the camera. The bad news is that the camera's image quality, boot-up time, and controls will make you want to stop taking photos altogether. Bad menu navigation, murky backgrounds, purple/pink halos..."Hey Mom, check out these pics I took of Blobby McSmear. Oh wait, that's my newborn baby. And I almost caught a UFO on camera, but I missed it because it took eight seconds for my camera to start up. And here's a picture of me crying uncontrollably while rocking back and forth in the fetal position because of this camera."

dopeys biggest fan -- Try this site. It may help. Select by price catagory then find the cameras in your price range and click check price for each camera. It will list the stores and prices.

Who knows, you may pull this off and if you do I think you will get great satisfaction out of it, if you know what I mean. ;)

Oh I did pull it off, so to speak! I bought a Kodak C643 with 6.1 MP and 3 X optical zoom for $169.00!! It was a few bucks more, but hey, I think I did pretty well !! :rolleyes1

Thanks for your help tho, I do appreciate it!
