We tried, but it was not a good deal. We did better buying through CarsDirect.com. I'm sure this varies depending on the local dealers and the specific car you want, though.
I sort of did. Costco/dealer gave me a very good deal on the 2010 Equinox. And GM was selling them for sticker only, since they couldn't keep them on the lot. I didn't use the dealership that Costco had the deal with. Another dealership matched the price for me.
We were able to negotiate $800 lower than the Costco price. They still leave plenty of wiggle room in those prices, so use the Costco price as your springboard and work down from there on your own.
We tried! The deal was great, we paid our deposit and then when we went to sign the final papers, the dealership raised the price by $2500 (and had already taken $1000 deposit). I was ... less then happy
