I just came across this. Is this for real? Can you really purchase or bid on a car off of Ebay? Anyone have any experiences to share?

My brother has bought several Saabs from people on Ebay. He has not gotten burned yet. I personally would never try it.

Really, do you know if it was a very good deal? I would be nervous too. I'm wondering how would you get the car checked out. Plus with the vehicles from last years hurricane, I'd be more leary.

My cousin used to fix up cars and sell them on ebay. I'm not sure how the whole transaction actually got worked out, but it's definitely done!

One of our best friends bought a motorcycle and an enormous luxury boat on ebay...the boat costing more than an average car. He loves these kinds of transactions and wants to list the Vette below for sale. DH is leery and doesn't want the hassle of a deal gone bad. Our friend was attempting to explain how to not get burned with this but I tuned him out. So sorry, I can't explain how it all works. :teeth:

I bought my 2000 Dodge Durango off ebay. It was in Florida and I arranged for it to be hauled here on a car carrier too. It was an excellent deal. Saved me over 5k than what I could get if for here and I got all the bells and whistles, which I would not have done otherwise. It was an easy decision, really. It came with a lemon check, I had the VIN number and called the Dodge dealership to see what it had been in for (they report everything on the VIN). It was a corporate leased vehicle turned in right at the lease end with 36k on it. Everything was maintained as it should have been and it was treated well. It was the easiest transaction I've ever made!

I know a friend who buys cars off e-bay. I am not sure how it works, but I can tell you I got burned selling an item off ebay.

I use PayPal so people can pay with charge cards. The person who bought my item paid for it that way, then 6 months later did a charge back on his credit card. So he got his money back for the item, got to keep the item and I got totally screwed. Paypal dinged me for cost (just over $100). What really burns me up is I had no way to retrieve my item. The guy won't return it-I got totally scammed and I went through Ebay and Paypal's legitimate process. I didn't do an outside deal or anything of that nature-I went totally by the book, but the guy found a loophole and I got screwed. I am so done with Ebay and Paypal. I tell everyone to Beware!!

My husband bought his Jeep off of Ebay. He got a great deal on it, about half of blue book. We ran a carfax on the vin and it came up with a minor accident repair.

The cool thing is that the seller had a used car business and listed a '95 and a '96 Cherokee the same day. The one we got photographed poorly (it looked like it was fluorescent) and we ended up paying half what the other person did. The jeeps both had similar mileage and condition.

We'd buy through eBay again.

We didn't buy a car, but did buy a camper off Ebay. The thing that made me feel more secure was that the seller was an RV dealer, not an individual. We got a really good deal on it, even with paying something like $700 for someone to tow it to NC from upstate NY.

One of my sisters has bought a couple of cars and one of my brothers bought an airplane. It can be a good deal but as with any used car purchase you have to do the homework and know what you are bidding for.

:thumbsup2 We sold a car on ebay. It works the same as selling anything on ebay. Our buyer came from Georgia. He rode the bus up here to Iowa and we met him at the bus station. The whole transaction was smooth.

There is a seller on e bay that is in Pompano Beach Florida that has beautiful cars that he sells from a warehouse. When I was looking through his car ads a year ago, I was impressed at the pics he provided of each car-very detailed pics of the inside and outside so that I could get an idea of the condition the car was in.
I drove down to South Florida before I bid on the car I was after, and he gladly let me look around.
I felt very confident about bidding on the car and 5 days later when the auction ended, I won, paid him and picked the car up. Very smooth transaction!!! :thumbsup2 This seller ships the cars out to all around the US and seems to be a very honest seller. I would definately buy from him again.

If anyone would have told me before that, that I would have bought a car on ebay, I would have told them they were nuts!!

I bought my car on ebay. It turned out that the guy lived the next town over and I went to see/drive the car. The name of the street he lived on was my first name so I think that was a sign don't you?

I bought my Explorer from a dealer in South Florida. Probably the same guy everyone else is buying from. My dealer tag says "Sawgrass Infiniti", so maybe that's the name of the company. This guy has sold HUNDREDS of cars on ebay, his feedback was the next thing to Spotless, and I felt very comfortable. I got 99 Explorer with only 30,000 miles on it for about 30% less than bluebook. The great thing about it was that they delivered it to POP Century while I was on vacation last September! The whole transaction went smoothly and I would definately buy from that guy again. I think the trick is to not buy from an individual. Buy from someone you can get some kind of history on. I would definately recommend Sawgrass Infiniti...although it may go by another name on ebay.

We have bought 2 cars off ebay - one a Lincoln Navigator - very low miles, saved about $5k+ over what we would have paid locally. I flew to Miami, the dealer had me picked up at the airport, and I was on my way home in less than an hour.

The other is our new car, a Chrysler 300C Heritage Editiion - it's very limited edition, not even available at dealers here yet - we paid below invoice for it. Drove 3 hours to pick it up at a dealer in NC.

I would buy a new/newer car off there - especially with great pics. I would consider an individual sale if the feedback/description etc sounded good - probably call the seller and get a feel for them before bidding.

One of my friends got a great deal on a suburban...that was 2 years ago, and no probs with car yet!

I have bought two old VW's on ebay. The first wasn't the best deal. Had to drive a long way to get it and it wasn't in the best shape.... I should have done a bit more homework.
2nd one was much closer to home and in MUCH better shape. I knew the questions to ask that time and was much happier with my purchase. Fully restored now and wins shows :)
Both were private individuals.
You can put the $$ in escrow until you are satisfied with the purchase.

The seller we used on ebay was in Pompano Beach (close to Ft Lauderdale) his pics were very accurate of the car.

Dolphin Automotive but his seller name on ebay is different.

carscarscars67 or something similair

My father in law sells cars on ebay. He fixes up antique cars and then sells them. He loves doing it. He shipped one of his cars to New Zealand!
