Buyin DVC while on DCL

The deals offered on DCL and the remote sales sites have historically been a little better than the deals offered at WDW. I was told by Disney Management that the reason for this is that DVD needs to make a high number of sales there to justify the added expense of marketing at those locations. :confused3

I was on the Dream a week and a half ago and a first time buyer told me he paid $135 per point for AKV's. I thought to myself, ouch, are they preparing us for GFV's.

I guess I am wondering if they offer any DCL onboard credits or anything like that. We are planning on buying a small contract and are cruising in September so are wondering if it is worth it to wait until on our cruise to buy or not.

When we bought onboard the Disney Dream in July 2011 we received a $500 shipboard credit. Not sure if that's something they offer during every sailing, though!

Wow...did you buy a large contract or an add-on contract!! That's a great deal.

It wasn't an add on as we became new members on the trip. :) I believe it went to anyone who bought 160 points or more.

I just bought on dcl they have onboard credit of $300 starting at 160 points and it went up if you bought more . I also got vip fast passes for the parks if you buy before you park days . If they dont offer the fast passes ,I would ask as they probably will give them to you . I doing think you can negotiate prices so maybe some squeese em for the passes . Out was $135 for AKV I bought SSR cause I knew it was less money from a previous tour .

Plus you can win shop credit just by going to the pitch meeting .

We bought onboard in April 2010. BLT 200 points for $112 at an $8 discount, plus we got an additional 200 points to use within one year. It was great we were able to have our first stay be at BLT for 5 nights in a dedicated. 2 bedroom during Easter week in 2011, which was 345 points ....we would have never been able to that with out borrowing. We then were able to go again the same year in August for 4 nights prior to our cruise and stayed at AKL in a 1 bedroom. That extra 200 points was a real boost.....so I would say booking onboard is a good thing....

Just got off the fantasy yesterday. They are offering a $300 on board credit with a purchase of 160 pts or more along with the same incentives on land with the 10 points free for every 100 at AKL and aulani. They are also giving 18 VIP fast passes. So yes they are a giving you a little bit more with the OBC and fast passes, but the expense of going the cruise with the purpose of buying to save on DVC you are not saving anything.
We want to buy at vgc and I met with a guide they can not put you on the list while onboard. He told me to speak with my guide, I told him we just bought resale and do not know who our guide was. He looked us up and we did not have one assigned to us, so he said he would be happy to be our guide. I'm sure he was after we expressed how we want to buy points direct for vgc and VGF when they start selling!

We bought 100 pts at AKL on the Magic in June. We were give 120 pts for that price with a $300 OBC and 18 Fast passes. We declined the OBC and asked for a gift card instead. We figured it out and it came to I believe $106 per pt.

What about add-ons, while on board.
we are booked on the Fantasy in January. We just bought 210 points at SSR in October, 2011.
Don't want another 160 right now, but 50-100 would be good.....

My guess is that they will refer you to your existing Guide. There seems to be a threshold of what they want to sell while on DCL.

Nothing beats buying resale. Offers on the cruise are indeed better than on land but no where near what resale has to offer. Call one of the resale brokers and see for yourself.

Just got off the Magic. Added on 150 points for Aulani. Got 500 dollar obc, 10 points extra each year, 18 fast passes and 150 points to use. 135/pt

If you add on while on a cruise, tell them the name of your guide and they will get credit for the sale.

They know who your Guide is, you shouldn't have to tell them. I was told by one of our Guides that they only get a partial commission for DCL and off site sales.

Just bought on the Fantasy last week. We got $500 onboard credit, 18 VIP fast passes & $4050 credit toward the price which brought it down to $123.75 per point. Also got extra VIP passes since they made a mistake with the paperwork & we had to re-sign everything.

We were just on the Dream and said we were curious about a small contract for 50 or so at VB and they were quite willing to look it up for us, no problem. Quoted $75 a point, but since we joined via resale last year and paid about that for our AKV points, we didn't see it as a great deal. They did keep insisting that the best deals are always offered on the ship. As incentives they had OBCs/gift cards of $500+ if you bought during the first few days of the 5 nt cruise, then just VIP fast passes after that. Think it was the same 160 point minimum for incentives. Also giving the 10 extra points.

It does sound like the best DIRECT deals come when cruising on DCL, since they offer all of the normal incentives plus (often) toss in substantial shipboard credit and fast passes. So if you want to buy direct and are planning to cruise on DCL, you might as well take advantage. But those deals are highly unlikely to bring the price down close to resale.
