So I purchased into DVC back in October aboard DCL. Just wondering if anyone has ever had buyers remorse? Unfortunately I can't even use my first points due to the timing of life! Maybe I could be a little excited if I had the chance to use them :sad2:

you can bank your points and use them the following year,Their are different places to use beside Disney

Did you intially find it overwhelming? I have enjoyed lurking through the boards and finding many tips!

you can bank unused point into the next year and take a longer trip or upgrade your stay to a bigger room or a resort that requires more points. The first year we bought we couldn't go as well, but banked and did close to 3 full weeks at SSR in a 1-bdrm.....what a trip that was:goodvibes

Start planning a trip. Even if you aren't sure when you can travel, pretend you can go on a certain date. Then find some countdown tickers to count down the days to your "almost-pretty-sure" trip. And get a countdown ticker for when the 11-month window opens so you can book your trip. And don't forget you might want a countdown ticker for when the 7-month window opens, just in case you can't decide whether you want to stay at your home resort or try one of the other DVC resorts. And don't forget to read other members' trip reports and look at their photos, because a vicariously-lived trip to Disney is better than nothing.

All of this practice will come in handy when you are finally able to book a trip.

Seriously, though, don't forget to bank any points you can't use this UY before your banking window expires. Now THAT would be true buyer's remorse if you lost any points because you missed a banking window. Good luck!!

I know I have until Jan 31st to bank my points. If I bank them do they only come back available with my UY month of June? Or are they still good Feb 1-May 31?

Don't feel bad. I always have a little bit of buyer's remorse when I make a major purchase. I think that's pretty normal. You'll feel better after your first trip "home". And one thing about owning DVC, if you find out later you don't like it, you can always get most of your money back out of it. You can't say that about most timeshare purchases. ;)

I have a feeling once you starting using your points the remorse will be long forgotten. You will soon be planning far in advance and wanting to buy more points.

Should the need ever arise to sell be advised The Timeshare Store, Inc.® has been very successful in selling the DVC points. The process is pretty simple but again my thoughts are once you start using the points you will have no interest in selling.

Congrats.

Thanks for the offer Jason, but for now I will hold on tight & look toward the future. I plan on banking & hope I have the time to use them this next year!

Don't forget that you can rent or transfer out points that you will not be able to use or bank.

We had to bank our first year's points too. But immediately started planning our first trip for 2010. Since we banked we were able to fit two trips in for next year.

You'd be banking them into 2010 Use Year so they'd only be usable

6/1/2010 thru 5/31/2011

If you do not think you will use the points during this time you can ask MS

about depositing them into RCI to use at their (non-DVC) resorts/locations.

If I remember correctly points deposited into RCI gives you

up to 2 years to make use of the points.

Best wishes & :welcome: HOME !!! When you start your DVC adventures I think you'll find that there's alot to  about your DVC membership !

yes, we had remorse....my buyer's remorse was that we sold back the first year's points (for more$$ off purchase price) then we found that we needed more than our original 200 points, added on 150 points, and still need more!!! Okay, so really, no remorse, we love our DVC. Our plan is to stay at all of the DVC's at WDW and eventually at the others, the only problem is that they keep adding more DVC's and our DD and DS keep wanting to stay at AKV in the sav. view rooms, which eat our points quickly! You'll find that you will love your DVC and won't want to go back to the "basic" rooms.

Ditto, that first trip home will brighten your days because you'll know that you have years of wonderful vacations ahead of you.

I would think that if anyone would have ever had buyer's remorse, it would have been me. But it didn't happen. I'm a skeptic & can find fault with jsut about anything, but have always been one of DVC's biggest supporters. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to discuss the warts and can see through some of the "perks" to the business rational behind them, but after 10 years am as happy with the purchase as I've ever been.

My parents had a time-share when I was younger and I had a very negative opinion of them. In addition, vacationing is one of my highest "disposable income" priorities and I had taken some pretty nice trips prior to buying. But I think because I had been to several upscale resorts prior to Disney, immediately saw the quality they were offering. It also helped that our first exposure to Disney was a cash stay at Hilton Head where we didn't even know it was a time-share prior to arriving (I had never even been to the parks prior to buying at Hilton Head).

If the financials are a stretch, there may be some remorse, but I can't ever see the quality or experience of Disney causing remorse. And if you're like us, you may sometimes find yourself banking points and taking cash vacations just to mix it up a little. Of the trips shown in my signature, three of those (the 99 HHI, 05 Paris & 07 offsite were not through DVC - but the Hotel Del in San Diego & two cruises were). Banking points also allows you to splurge a little when you do go to DVC (we only have 240 points ourselves and you'll see both of our cruises were followed by years where we didn't use points). And just to round out our experiences, we are trying to rent for the first time this year (although Hilton Head points seem to be harder to rent, at least this time of year).

It's a bummer you can't enjoy the points right away, but if you have to bank, you'll have twice as many points for your first trip. We used essentially this same scenario to book our 2000 Boardwalk trip where we got a two-bedroom AND studio and invited extended family.

I don't think this board moderates too aggresively and so if there were more than a couple people unhappy with DVC, you would probably know about it.

Quality never goes out of style.

JeffR: your so true about not seeing the complaints. That has been one of the most positive influences with this purchase. My husband & I were just discussing that I haven't read any horror stories. I'm sure there may be a few out there, but the key is FEW!

I have buyer's remorse about almost anything I purchase, unless it's a necessity. I even get buyer's remorse over buying anything over $20. (Can you tell I'm a worrier?!?) So, of course I questioned our decision to buy DVC points.

That said, after we used our points for the first time, I knew we made the right decision. It's nice to be able to travel when we want to and be able to stay in a nice resort. I also know we are saving money every year, because I have done the math. Those savings are only going to grow over the life of the contract.

Once you start planning and make your first trip, I'm sure you'll be happy with your decision! :thumbsup2

The only buyers remorse is because Disney is changing the way that they do business. It's not just the DVC, it's WDW also. :sad2:

Just wait until you use your 1st trip! We went to akv kidani in Nov in a 2br savanna view and knew exactly why we bought!!!
