I would think that if anyone would have ever had buyer's remorse, it would have been me. But it didn't happen. I'm a skeptic & can find fault with jsut about anything, but have always been one of
DVC's biggest supporters. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to discuss the warts and can see through some of the "perks" to the business rational behind them, but after 10 years am as happy with the purchase as I've ever been.
My parents had a time-share when I was younger and I had a very negative opinion of them. In addition, vacationing is one of my highest "disposable income" priorities and I had taken some pretty nice trips prior to buying. But I think because I had been to several upscale resorts prior to Disney, immediately saw the quality they were offering. It also helped that our first exposure to Disney was a cash stay at Hilton Head where we didn't even know it was a time-share prior to arriving (I had never even been to the parks prior to buying at Hilton Head).
If the financials are a stretch, there may be some remorse, but I can't ever see the quality or experience of Disney causing remorse. And if you're like us, you may sometimes find yourself banking points and taking cash vacations just to mix it up a little. Of the trips shown in my signature, three of those (the 99 HHI, 05 Paris & 07 offsite were not through DVC - but the Hotel Del in San Diego & two cruises were). Banking points also allows you to splurge a little when you do go to DVC (we only have 240 points ourselves and you'll see both of our cruises were followed by years where we didn't use points). And just to round out our experiences, we are trying to rent for the first time this year (although Hilton Head points seem to be harder to rent, at least this time of year).
It's a bummer you can't enjoy the points right away, but if you have to bank, you'll have twice as many points for your first trip. We used essentially this same scenario to book our 2000 Boardwalk trip where we got a two-bedroom AND studio and invited extended family.
I don't think this board moderates too aggresively and so if there were more than a couple people unhappy with DVC, you would probably know about it.
Quality never goes out of style.
