I do not have buyer's remorse - let me start there. In fact, I haven't even gotten my paperwork to sign yet. In my understanding of what my guide has said, I still have a couple or maybe 3 weeks or so to change my mind. DH and I have no intentions of changing our mind, but let's play a little "what if"...

Scenario: We are able to make ressies at SSR w/ developer points, we stay 1 night using those developer points b/f we actually close. Then, God forbid, DH loses his job or one of us gets hurt or something crazy like that happens and we decide it is no longer financially feasible to be owners. Now, remember we have already stayed one night at SSR. What happens???

I am one of those idiots who is always asking myself "what if" and it is a crumby way to live life for sure...We are so excited about our purchase and neither of us foresee any upcoming issues but we do have ressies for next Tuesday for just one night (going to MNSSHP and don't want to drive home with DS2 at midnight), and although the "what ifs" are probably "no so much's", if something did happen, would I be expecting a VERY LARGE bill from DVC or SSR to the tune of $96ppx11pts?? lol

I would think at worst they would bill you rack rates for the 1 night, which might be several hundred dollars. I believe you have 10 days to decide after receiving your paperwork, which can take a week or so to get to you, so that is probably why they told you 3 weeks.

That makes sense. Now I am getting worried because I just read a couple threads about incentives probably getting much better over the next few months...UGH - I told you, I hate that "what if" feeling. What if they offer $1000 and free annual passes and their first born?? lol

When we bought into DVC in mid-1997, the only "incentive" we received was the right to a pre-paid vacation for about 45 years.

Didn't need anything else..................

We just did an add-on with the last AKV promotion, which was one of the better ones I've seen in a few years (developer points, gift cards & $8/pt credit).

They haven't given away free passes in many years and I don't anticipate the incentives to be much better than the recent AKV one that expired on the 20th. I think the consensus is that incentives tend to be better in the fall or when they need to sell out a resort that has been selling for a few years (like AKV).

It comes down to how long are you willing to wait for the "perfect deal" vs. taking advantage of what you can have now. You may see better AKV incentives in 6-12 months, you may not.

If you are commited to purchasing then just see any incentives that may be available as the nice one-time bonus they are, not something that greatly affects the overall outlay over the next 50 years. The more important questions are:

Can you afford it?
Are you committed to WDW DVC stays (vs. trading out)?
Do you understand all the financial ramifications (50 year contract, annual dues, etc)?

The incentives will come and go but initial outlay and annual dues are there for the long haul.

I voted "just a little".
The only reason was that we were avid Poly lovers, and were very sad to give up our vacations there.
We quickly got over that, mainly after discovering how much we loved VWL/WL.

We still sneak in a few days at the Poly now and again... ;)

Incentives will only get better if DVD isn't meeting sales expectations and that doesn't seem to be a problem right now.

The "what if" is around me every day and sometimes you just need to go for it.
We bought AKV, better deal offered the following week. :scared1:
Buying Stock - always high when I buy and low when I sell. :sad2:
Check out lines, I always pick the short line that takes twice as long as the long lines... think I would learn by now.

I don't regret buying AKV for a minute, however I have a different sort of remorse:

I wish I had been able to buy in earlier (I first started looking into DVC when it was at $87/pt (SSR)) & I still wish I had VWL as my home (although we love AKV, VWL *is* home) ... Can we say "Add-on"? :wizard:

As far as incentives are concerned it's kind of a gamble. I purchased a couple of weeks ago because I felt I was getting a pretty good deal directly through Disney. I got the $8 off per point, 2 annual passes to WDW, $500 Disney gift card and $1,200 toward my down payment as well as matching developer points. I suppose it's possible something better could come along but again, I feel the incentives were better than average from what I've seen the last couple of years.

ETA: I regret I didn't buy sooner.

Wow! Where did you get such a great deal? I'm jealous...

Wondering the same thing and guessing at Doorway to Dreams, not in Fla? I have heard they have different/often better incentives than onsite Fla??

I scheduled a tour at DL. I believe they only offer the AP incentive if you purchased on site. I didn't even know about it until my guide told me. I was given the choice between two DL or WDW APs.:goodvibes

I answered 'a little'. I wish I had known I could split up my purchase (we bought 225pts, would have bought 1 -160 and 1-65). Would have given me more flexibility to seel the smaller contract for a larger VGC purchase and possibly a Hawaii purchase....

If anyone does get buyers remorse, it should be immediately cured when you: book your first reservation, start planning, arrive to "Welcome Home". Then you realize you HAVE to do it all over again soon!

I'm always worried about getting the best deal I can. I don't consider that buyer remorse.

what are developer points? thanks!

It is my understanding that they are points given to tide the buyer over until their points are available for their home resort if it isn't completed yet (like AKV). I bought 160pts and got matched 160pts, but they can only be used at SSR.
