BuyDig vs. JR.com

Beach Camera is the name of their retail store. I am pretty sure that Buydig was their first online venture. I believe that they opened the Beach website to play off the good reputation of their retail store. Why would you say at they are competing against each other when the end dollar is going to the same person?

Kevin

It's not really all that big of a deal, and it isn't illegal, unethical, or even immoral (darn), but they are competing against each other when they both have web sites and both buy separate ads (none of which say - we are the same place) in the same publications, so obviously they are looking for the same customer, which is their choice. If they weren't competing against each other they could combine ads and buy twice as much ad space.

I'll put in a plug for JR.com- I've used them a few times and have always had a positive experience. My recollection is that they process orders quickly and I always have my orders within a week of ordering just with regular shipping.

I concur

Here are my thoughts in an example.

One store:
revenue $1,000
advertising cost -$100
operating cost -$100
profit $800

Two stores:
revenue $1,500
advertising cost -$200
operating cost -$105
profit $1,195

While I do not know their finances, I suspect it is something similar to this. Operating one more site is more costly in ads, but operating costs are incrementally very small because you already have the employees and the websites are almost identical. I see this as competing against other companies better instead of competing against yourself. You took more out of the pockets of the other guys in the end.

BTW... If you cannot tell I am an accountant. :rotfl2:

Me neither - but you present a more accountant-like case:thumbsup2 .

The funniest thing about this is that from what I can tell, both businesses have good to great reputations, are known to the BBB in a positive sense, so it obviously is something that works for them, and they must understand their reasoning. It's just that usually when I have encountered something like this, at least one of the businesses didn't have such a good reputation. And again, both these stores seem to have very good reputations and a loyal following of knowledgeable customers.

Now, Kevin, can you help me with my taxes :confused3 ?
