My family has been to WDW the past three years and stayed at onsite resorts. We are going to buy into DVC and can't decide whether to buy 175 points from Disney at SSR or 200 points resale at BCV. The resale just came available and we must decide quickly. The resale would have 386 points immediately available due to all of last year being banked. Total purchase cost is about the same.

We just got back and love love lovvvved SSR! Disney makes it very easy to process the purchase. The resort of just georgus and it has the longer "shelf life" of the full 50 years.

My friend love love lovvves BCV. Its got a good location and SAB is amazing, which you cant pool hop to.

I also think that BCV has worse "bad views" that SSR(like the view of the valet driveway), but we havent seen all the buildings at SSR yet. SSR also has grand villas and BCV doesnt, if you might be in need of one.

Dont forget with resale youll be paying closing costs and possibly back dues for the banked points.

The common sentiment here is “buy where you want to stay” and I think that’s good advice. Besides location and the theme of the resort, the big difference is SSR expires (reverts back to Disney) in 2054, while the other current resorts expire in 2042, so you’ll get an extra 12 years at SSR. You can also finance SSR through Disney, if you buy resale you’ll have to line up financing on your own and the process takes longer to complete.

We recently went through the same decision process and decided on a BWV resale. I’ll be 78 when the BWV contract expires, so I wasn’t concerned with the extra 12 years at SSR. (Not to imply that people in their 80’s cannot enjoy WDW) We love the location of BWV because it’s close to Epcot and the restaurants on the Boardwalk. It’ll be about six weeks from when our offer was accepted until we got into the system to make reservations. It was a long wait but well worth it.

Good luck with your decision!

You mentioned family in your post with that little info about you I would say go with BCV contract. BCV as you probably know is right where the action is near MGM and EPCOT. SSR is more like OKW out of the way of the parks, I would think that people with kids would like BCV, they have the best pool at WDW by far.

I agree with Pa@OKW95.

The SSR pool and comples will be great, but I would buy there only if the longer term contract or location is important to you. My sense is if the kids are young BCV is a better choice. I also think SAB is the best pool complex on property and they have great pools at WDW! You also have the Boardwalk, two parks, miniature golf and lots of great dining all in walking distance.

I have 3 kids (hopefully 4 soon) and we bought BCV. We bought where we thought over 40 years we would want to stay most. The location and of course SAB decided us. Someone on the BB did a cost analysis and the higher price of SSR vs resale they come out just about even (even factoring in the extra years). I wish I could remember who did all the great work figuring that out, Moral buy where you most want to stay.

We bought a resale at OKW for our initial purchase with all of the previous years points banked and it was so nice to start off with the extra points. We also bought a small amount of points so we could stay at BCV every 3 years. We love both resorts. I would got with the extra points and get the resale.
SSR looks great but it will also be larger and should be easier to get at the 7 month window.

BCVs are hard to come by. They're in very high demand for all the reasons listed above. If you have a shot at buying a decent contract there, that's what I would do. Good luck!

It is a no brainer if you have children. In my humble opinion SSR is for those who enjoy the night life mostly rather than the wholesome feel of Disney activity. The location is very different.
Pleasure Island with its adult attractions vs the nearness to Epcot and MGM. I just read that BCV is one of the only 4 star resorts around rated by AAA. There are obviously wonderful elements of SSR but we chose BCV for our children. Also the resale of BCV is about 10 minutes on the resale boards. It is hard to tell what the resale time line will be for SSR. You better grab BCV fast or it will be gone.

Thanks everyone for your help! I am new at this (DVC and message boards), the comments helped us decide to buy the resale at BCV. We were fortunate enough to find a BVC resale with all of previous years points banked and all but 14 of current year points available. Not only are we getting 25 more points for the same money we are getting almost a whole years worth of extra points.

This was a very tuff decision and I feel we would have been very happy with either option, however, I saw some post tonight about SSR phase 3 (SSR is going to be a mega resort) and feel even better about our decision.:)
