Apparently there is a shortage of pumpkin? I had no idea until I tweeted that I was going to make weight watchers pumpkin muffins and a friend tweeted back about it?

Sure enough at meijer the shelves were bare! I even saw some for sale on ebay! A friend found some for me at Marsh though.

I'm kinda surprised- this would be the kind of thing I would expect to have read on the budget board- but then I was out sick for awhile so maybe I missed it?

This is funny because last fall we had someone tell us that there was a pumpkin shortage. Have not had any problems finding pumpkin at all. Must only be in certain areas.:rotfl:

I heard about this too and noticed it never went on sale during the fall and winter, but there was no shortage here (that I noticed at least), just no sales.

I heard this as well last fall, but I still have no problems finding it. It never went on sale like usual after the holidays, but it still seems pretty easy to find.

I keep hearing about the eggo shortage too, but my regular grocery store is always well stocked....at least with the more popular kinds.

Not sure about a pumpkin shortage but would love a copy of the WW muffin recipe :)

Thanks,
Karen

Just mix a can of pumpkin with a box of devils food cake mix and bake as cupcakes (I usually make mini ones). It is really easy and they are good (and incredibly moist! No other ingredients although I will ice mine with chocolate icing sometimes...so obviously then they are not weight watcher friendly :goodvibes

I am not 100% certain, but I think the Betty Crocker mix is slightly better than the Duncan Hines for weight watcher purposes.

A pumpkin patch we went to last fall told us there was a shortage. They had bought big skids of them like they sell at Walmart and put them out in their fields for their customers to go "pick" :rotfl:. They even left the stickers on them :lmao:. But we had no trouble finding them (and nicer, bigger ones, too) at Walmart.

I have seen alot of empty shelves from the Eggo shortage in our area as well.

I live near many pumpkin fields and near the canning plant.

Last fall there was a freeze before they could harvest the pumpkins so all those pumpkins went to waste.

I know there is defnitely somewhat of a shortage. It may depend on brands or areas though.

It definitely depends upon where you live. Around here there are usually only a few boxes on the shelves and only the buttermilk or the regular kind. Chocolate Chip, cinnamon and other fancy kinds like blueberry are nowhere to be found.

:rotfl2:
I love how this post has diverged into 3 separate discussions of:

pumpkin shortage
eggo shortage
weight watchers recipes and points

Gotta love this place :goodvibes

Yep, I have not been able to find a single can in any grocery store since Christmas. I use pumpkin a ton for low-carb recipes. :sad2:

Have you tried the organic section? Amazon has some organic too- or did yesterday.

I agree, check the organic area. The varieties grown by organic farmers were not impacted the same as the conventional pumpkin crops. Check places like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's too.

Here too it's awful but the plant that was affected is actually here so I think that is part of it.

I heard about the pumpkin shortage in the fall and the prices were outrageous but it was on the shelves.

you can use spice cake mix too and it is YUMMY!!!

You can also make cookies too

1 box of spice cake mix
1 can pumpkin
1 cup mini choco chips

Bake 350 for 20 min. 1 pt. each!

I had more problems finding the spice cake mix! Had to try 3 stores! lol

This was all over the news right around Halloween and Thanksgiving.. I think I posted the info on the CB.. Unfortunately, by the time I tried to get some canned pumpkin, there was no more available..:(
