So, we just booked a trip for December 16th-23rd. I found a Continental flight (roundtrip from Houston) for $326 per person. This is by no means cheap, but since we are flying during peak holiday time, I'm wondering if we should just go ahead and purchase the flight. BTW-- the only other carrier that is cheaper for those dates is Airtran, and we would have LONG layovers in ATL (ie--turning a 2 and a half hour trip into a 6 hour trip!). Since we have two small boys (ages 6 and 4), we are really interested in direct flights. Any advice? --Katie

Id book.. the closer it gets to holiday travel.. the prices will go up. We have looked into going during April vaca for Massachusetts every year... prices started around 400 non stop they are now over 700. They wont go down either.. Id BOOK. just my opinion..

The night we made the decision to go over Christmas, I looked at flights and found one leaving the NYC area (while I avoid LaGhetto if at all possible, I have no issues with JFK or Newark) for under $350. We booked it that night. The price for the same flight has already jumped to over $350 and it's only July.

My parents made the decision to drive from Nashville because the flights they were watching were going up or filling up.

Book now.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Y'all are confirming what I was already thinking. Holiday travel is SO pricey!! Oh well, we'll be at Disney right before Christmas :lovestruc. That will be awesome! --Katie

If the price fits in your budget - I'd book it now. Guessing what the cost of airline travel that is months out will do is a lot like playing the stock market. It could go up, it could go down, you just never know for sure.

One thing I would do - unless you are booking on an airline that offers a credit if the price goes down (such as Southwest), once you book stop checking prices and just assume you got the rock bottom price.

I agree the sooner you book it now the better rate you will probably get. We got lucky and were able to book through southwest during their 25 year anniversary back in June and got out with a round trip nonstop tickets for $177 per person.

But since your traveling during the busy holiday season I don't see prices really going down much. Best bet would be to see if you can find any discounts on the web.

I had to LOL at LaGhetto, sooooo funny! I'm going through the same thing, I got 250 RT from JFK, I'm going to book now! Thanks!!!!
