Buy now or wait until after 1/31

Right now, you can get a $5.00 discount per point at BLT and you get double points (2009 points) up til 1/31. These are not SSR developer points...they are your 2009 BLT points....just to be clear. So if you buy 160 points, you have 320 to use in 2010.

Does anyone have a gut feeling about buying now (prior to 1/31) with the above incentives vs. waiting to see what the next incentive is going to be? The cruise they offered last year had restrictions that made it useless for my family, so that's no good. What else could they offer that is better?

Thanks in advance,
DD

If you are ready to take the plunge anyway then signup this week and hold off returning the paperwork to see if any new incentives come out that you like better. If they do, simply request the new incentives and have them send out revised paperwork. If they don't you can still cancel without penalty within the allotted time period.

There is always the possibility there won't be any new incentives after the 31st but you will at least have started the process and can still take advantage of the existing incentives this week.

The offers for BLT points have not changed much since October 4th when BLT went up to $120 with $5 off for 160 points or more. But with the December and January offer they have included 2009 points. Per our guide, Ron, it is pretty rare for the DVC to give out prior year's points. DVD often gives out current year's points.

So if you really want BLT and can't wait for a resale contract go ahead and buy now.

I think there is also an incentive for the AP vouchers, but the may just be AKV and GCV...It is for 4-8AP depending on the level of points you purchase. Depending on your downpayment and upfront investments, it can take up to 17 months to receive the vouchers though....

Your guess is as good as anyones.

It's a business thing, Disney pushes DVD to make more money and DVD offers incentives and plays games with the pricing to keep and/or increase sales.

Sometimes the deals get better, sometimes they don't. The best deals can be resales.

My advice, work the numbers and make sure that the DVC is really for you and your family.

Disney does a great job selling but there are a lot of members unloading their contracts, that should tell you something.

Actually, getting current UY points is pretty typical. It is not really something "extra" that is being given. If I add on to my BLT contract right now, they will give me 2009 points since I am still in my 2009 UY for June.

I think there would be very few new buyers who would buy in the middle of a UY and pay for something that didn't given them any points for a few months.

Now, there were posts last year that some of the UY were sold out at AKV and getting current UY points wasn't happening, but that seemed to be rare.

Until a month hits it's 2010 UY, points should be offered. For example, a new buyer who buys BLT in February and asks for an August UY, should still be offered 2009 points. However, if they buy in February and ask for or are offered a Feb UY, then they won't since February will have started its 2010 UY.

Anyone who likes BLT and wants to lock in the $5.00 per point discount, can do so today and if the incentives get better in the next few weeks, can always ask that the contract be re-written. It takes about a week to get the paperwork, and once you sign, Disney has to wait 10 days to close it (as you can rescind during this time).

DVC has been good about giving buyers the new incentives, if they are better, as long as the contract hasn't officially closed.

By all accounts, BLT seems to be selling fairly well, and, in my opinion, I doubt that the incentives are going to get any better for that particular resort. I say that if you are in a position to buy right now, you should go ahead and do it. Keep in mind that there probably are always going to be better incentives out there based on various circumstances (for example, if you buy on a cruise) but if *you* are happy with the deal you are getting, that should be enough. Good luck with your decision! :goodvibes

They made graphics for the free passes incentive so I doubt that will be replaced any time soon. I have a feeling we will not see too much change other than an extention of existing expiration dates on Feb 1.

anyone know what incentives are being offered on the cruise right now? thanks!

Just got off the boat yesterday but the sales people said our sailing was the last sailing to offer this holiday incentive I'm listing below. Not sure if that's true or not but we were hooked line and sinker... :lmao:

This is member only incentive. I didn't go to the propective members meeting

BLT
All add on get 2009 use year points without any dues and no banking deadline

100pt $113
125pt $111
160pt $109
200pt $107

AKV & VGC
All add on get 2009 use year points without any dues and no banking deadline

100pt $95
125pt $93
160pt $91
200pt $89

We were considering adding on before getting on the boat and brought my research with me (resales, current incentive at WDW, points charts, etc.). I couldn't believe the promo they were offering.

They also allowed us to do smaller contracts and combined the points from 2 resorts to get the 200pt incentive. So we are happy campers.
If only I knew this incentive was coming I would have held off on purchasing VGC until now. It ended up being cheaper now than when we first bought it.

Yes. I am actually hearing that the price will be going up for BLT points very soon and they are close to selling out and would like to see people buying into other larger units like SSR and AKV. So BLT I feel at this point is as low as it's going to get, if not higher or sold out soon while the other may have bigger incentives.
