"Buy it Now" Request

Hi, all. After testing the waters and selling a few items on eBay several months ago (btw, thanks again to all of you who answered my questions), I decided to really focus on getting stuff listed and keeping auctions going. I've had my first question from a prospective buyer tonight, and I'd like to know the proper procedure.

The person has asked if I would be willing to add a "buy it now" for x amount of dollars as no one has yet bid on the item (in fact, it looks as if she is the only one who has viewed the auction). The price she is proposing is acceptable; I wouldn't be making a big profit, but it would be more than I have now!

My question is: do I go ahead and revise the listing to add the "buy it now" and then e-mail this person, or should I let her know I am willing to accept her offer and then modify the listing?

I know this is probably a dumb question and I know I over-analyze everything (I just don't want to make mistakes so early in the game!).

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks so much!

Delaney

P.S. I love these boards!

I wouldn't...let the auction run it's course....who knows maybe your item will sell more than the Buy it Now price that the person is requesting....Always run your own auctions...never let the bidders run them....cause next thing you know they'll be whining about the shipping charges....Good luck!

The advice that is normally given over on the "Ebay Your Way to Disney" thread is that if someone requests a Buy it Now price be added, that the item is likely to bring considerably more than what your opening price is (and probably more than what they are offering). I haven't experienced this 1st hand, just taking note of the advice that was given by Ebay veterans in the other thread. Hope this helps. You might want to post the same question on that thread. Sandy

Thanks for the quick response! I'd never really thought of it that way - I guess I was so excited to find out that someone was willing to pay more than the opening price!

I'll e-mail her and suggest that she keep watching the auction. I'll tell her that since it appears she is the only one who has been interested at this point, perhaps she'll be able to purchase it for the lower opening price!

Thanks again!
Delaney

My apologies for starting a new thread - I really intended this for the eBay thread (can you tell I'm still learning my way around here?!?!)
