7.30am I’m awoken by the TV - yes the Top 7 list…again. I’m just about to tell my daughters to give it a rest when I notice they are still fast asleep. I turned over to find DW watching. Surely somewhere in that list should be “Let husband/dad sleep in his nice hotel bed!” Anyway I’m awake now, so I shower and go down to the lobby for a coffee and to let the women pull themselves together.

They join me at about 8.30am and we decided to go across to the campground and have breakfast at Trail’s End. We get off the boat and the place seems deserted. I guess everyone has gone to the parks by now, but if it hadn’t been for a couple passing on a golf cart we would have thought the whole campground was closed. There are more people at Trail’s End, but we are seated straight away. The restaurant is very much in keeping with the campground theme, and although not as “glamorous” as other Disney restaurants, this must be one of the best, if not the best, deals value wise on property. The buffet has pretty much what every other Disney breakfast buffet has and at $10.99 ($6.99 for DD2) it’s a whole lot cheaper. Drinks are served in jars as at the Whispering Canyon and as an added bonus for DW, the waitress turns out to be Dominican and from the same town as her. The place was great and we’ll definitely be back one day.

We strolled around the campground for a while to walk of the food and checked out the petting farm. It had been in the news that a number of children from northern Florida had caught a mysterious illness after petting animals at other farms, so we resisted the temptation to stroke them! There were however a couple of schools on a trip and these kids had clearly not seen the news - hope they are OK.

We hadn’t really any plans for the rest of the day and as it was getting pretty hot the general consensus was another few hours by the pool. Managed to get 4 sunbeds together and relaxed. When we left for the campground a few hours ago I noticed a couple staking their claim to some sunbeds next to where we ended up, but at about 1.00 they were nowhere to be seen. Another couple asked us if the beds were free and I said they were as no one had been there whilst we had. Me and my big mouth - they’d only been there for 5 minutes when couple 1 returned. The woman started to throw her toys out of her pram and was getting quite irate. This resulted in the usual reaction from DW when this sort of thing happens - she laughed…loud. Stunned that her anger had caused this reaction couple 1 stormed off and took one of the 25 or so beds that were available anyway!

DD2 had hassled me since our first trip to go on the surrey bikes. When we had seen them at Boardwalk I had always resisted her pleas, but as they had some here at the hotel I eventually gave in to her “Can we?”, “Can we?”, “Can we?”….. . I have to say that the bike rental is pretty expensive, but she was happy. We were given a map to the campground where we would turn around and come back. Just before leaving, the CM told us.....

“Take the 2nd left at the top of the path when leaving the hotel. Don’t take the 1st left or you’ll end up at the doors of the Wilderness Lodge Villas!”

“No worries, I said, the wife’s not steering” . Smug grin from me.

5 minutes later we are at the doors of the Wilderness Lodge Villas. Smug grin from wife as I pushed the bike the 50 yards back to the right path. Now there is one thing I hadn’t realised about the surrey bike. They are heavy. Very heavy. I turned around twice to make sure we weren’t towing another family. I made a mental note to myself to a) give up smoking, b) design a surrey bike that doesn’t weigh the same as a Volvo, and c) design a surrey bike that doesn’t weigh the same as a Volvo, but does have a Volvo engine. DD2, who was too small to pedal had a great time!

Once collapsing from the bike we spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach. The WL kids club was there and the CM kindly asked DD2 if she would like to build a castle with them. Apparently it was Cindy’s Castle, but I think the moat flooded. DD1, always the joker, said it looked more like the village "Aunty Jean lives in". Aunty Jean lives in Boscastle.

We decided to go off site for dinner and drove down to the Crossroads. I had read in The Brit’s Guide that Jungle Jims was quite good, so decided to give it a go. There was a 40 minute wait, but all the surrounding restaurants looked equally busy so we hung on. We were actually seated in about 20 minutes and they were clearly short of staff as about half the tables were empty. The guide recommended the burgers, so that what we had. They were OK, but only OK…as was the service, and we won’t be rushing back there.

We were back at the hotel by 10.00pm and after a glass of wine each in the lobby (kids went to the arcade) we retired to bed. No TV…no Top 7 list…just sleep.

Thanks for sharing. I have been on bikes like these 4 wheels, two long seats, little ones sit in front and in the back two sets of pedals - is this what the Surrey bikes are like?

Very funny report Rich!

I must try Trail's End!

We had a lovely meal at Jungle Jims on Good Friday - although saying that a family stormed out just as we came in complainging no-one had served them so perhaps they made an effort with us!

Did you get balloon animals from the "I twist for tips" man? :rotfl2:

Hi

No the balloon guy must have had a night off. As I said, the meal was OK, but nothing great. I wonder how many more restaurants we shared over Easter?

Rich

We were at Chef Mickeys Easter Sunday (along with the rest of the world) - and then we went home!

Couple of brekkies at IHOP and some yummy dins at Cracker barrel... :mickeybar
