The Cast:
Me Elise, 30 something harassed housewife, organiser of shopping, holidays, decorating etc
DH Baz, 33, Workaholic, hates holidays, blind, guide dog owner, fund-raising manager for Guide Dogs
DS1 Zach (AKA the demon child from hell), just turned 7, various undiagnosed problems EBD, ASD, ADHD you name it, but very cute
DS2 Danny, the exact opposite, little angel, cute as a button the list goes on, turns 2 in May
Day 1 Getting to Heathrow
Mac and Nixon picked up by friends the night before and keys given to Simon, who is house and cat sitting. All packed and ready by 2.30. Our friend is giving us a lift to the flightlink stop Aaaagh didnt tell us he had a micro car!!! Baz has Danny on lap, Zach is in footwell between back seats, I have front seat with smaller bags on lap and rest of luggage is stowed all around car tiny space left at back to see thro mirror. Please dont let us have an accident.
Phew get there on time and safe Surprise, surprise, coach is 40 mins late sigh.
Get on coach and children behave like spawn from hell please God not like this tomorrow!!! Only an hour and a half seems like ten tho. Get to the Central Bus station wheres the taxi rank??? Oh My God Its over at terminal 3!!
See if you can imagine this Me pushing Danny in buggy, blind DH pushing trolley laden with luggage, guided by 7yr old and me trying to help steer through the bus station to the lift and through the tunnel and up this enormous ramp to terminal 3. Trolley decides to jam at the end of the moving walkway so I have to leave Danny and help to unjam it Many incredulous looks from people piling up behind, but does anyone offer to help ?? Big Fat NO!!!
Finally get a taxi to Holiday Inn Soooooperb hotel. Enormous room, Danny hates the travel cot and Zach loves the sofa bed.
Dinner is wonderful; if a tad expensive - £90 with wine steaks all round and kids meals. Couldnt sleep Danny wants to play and has found out how to get out, Zach and me too excited. Baz puts on radio and headphones and sleeps - loudly!
