 Hi everyone. I've been reading the boards for awhile now but this is my first post. (I am very shy by nature  even on the internet) I was wondering if any past brides had a butterfly release? It's something I always wanted at my wedding. I was told by Karen, my planner, that I could have butterflies if i wanted but Disney doesn't offer that service.

Did anyone have a butterfly release? What company did you use?

Any help would be much appreciated.

my future sister in law looked into doing that for her wedding here in the uk back in august but theya re quite expensive and the butterflies may only live for a day they were told.

Some butterflies have really short lives so they decided not to do it.

How about doves instead can you do that in disney?

:wizard:

I've been to a wedding with a butterfly release and it was a disaster. Most of them were in shock and wouldn't fly. Also children weren't very careful with them a squished a few when they were trying to get them to fly :guilty:

Hi Zelda & welcome to the boards! :welcome:

I had considered a butterfly release but changed my mind when I was told that more often than not the butterflies don't fly out when released (they could be sleeping, in shock, etc) and when this happens a lot of guests think they are dead.

I saw one a few weeks later and sure enough a good deal of them did not "release" and some of the younger children started crying and people got a bit squeamish - it really wasn't pleasant at all. That wiped away any remaining thoughts I had about a butterfly release.

I think we are leaning towards flower petals.

i was told by disney they do not allow releases ie butterflies, doves, etc. i wanted to have a dove release but was told a stern no by my sm, em & dftw. things are always changing though this was in 05 & i was married march 21st 2006.

best of luck with your plans when are you planning to be married? the ladies here are great, so dont be shy & welcome to the dis.

I had a friend who had a butterfly release. She had an outdoor wedding. The butterflies came in a small box. When it was time for the release, most of them flew out. They had to turn the box upside down and shake it, though. BUT - there was one dead butterfly. The release took place at the end of the ceremony and so this one dead butterfly fell right to the ground right in between the bride and groom while they were standing at the end of the aisle. The bride was a little upset and was concerned it was bad luck. But it all turned out ok in the end (I guess except for the dead butterfly).

I considered it, but the logistics of getting the butterflies to Disney and then having them passed out, etc., was way too much for me. Additionally, they were very expensive (over $2 each). The doves are a big no for Disney, because they have caused birds of prey to start stalking the property in an attempt to catch the poor doves, which are basically white homing pigens that fly to the same place every time.

I love the idea of petals or streamers....we had bubbles. The wedding that I went to this weekend had the floral cannon. The cannon shot of with different colored flowers that matched the colors for the wedding....SOOOO COOL!

Thank you everyone for your replies and suggestions. I'm sad to hear that no one has had a completely positive experience with butterflys. It seems like I will need to come up with a new plan. The flower cannon sounds really unique maybe I'll look into that.
