I was looking at buying a new Canon S2 IS from Butterfly Photo and was wondering if anyone has purchaded from them before and what their experience was. They have the lowest price I've found for this camera (around $315) and may buy from them unless they're not vert reputable. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it. Thanks

since nobody replied yet, I'll step up to the plate. Although I don't have first hand experience with this company, I've heard good (not stellar, but good) experiences mentioned about it.

We purchased an old Sony MiniDv(pc100 or 110) from them about 3-4 years ago. They did apply some serious pressure to purchase some addons, they called twice under the guise of verifying credit card info. They spent more time trying to sell us a generic battery(with a price higher than sony branded batteries) than they did asking about the credit card.

But we declined all additional purchases and got our camera at a great price, I do not recall shipping being either really fast or super slow.

I've bought two digicams recently from Butterfly and have been pleased with the service. The only caveat is that a CSR will call to "verify" your order, and will try to sell you some expensive (I assume) accessories...batt's, mem cards, etc. The offer was not pushy or rude in any way, and when I declined, they were very polite and gave me assurances that my order would go out that day or next, which it did. Seems that I did have to call *them* on the second order, when I did not get a shipping confirmation, to sorta' jump start the process and get the order shipped. Not a big deal, and would buy from them again w/o hesitation.

Butterfly photo. In May, I purchased the S2 from Butterfly with no problem at all. They will really try to sell the add ons for the camera, 1 gig memory card, extended warranty, and the various lenses for the S2 (all of which I fell for)! I am happy with everything tho- camera would have cost me $322 had I just said no to the extras, but.....I am happy with everything. A note about the warranty....it covers everything. As long as you register the warranty within 30 days, you'll be covered should something happen. The salesman sold a 5 yr warranty for the price of the 3 year. Also told me that since the S3 was now avail., the S2 would be discontinued this summer by Canon. Therefore, if something fails on the camera anytime in the five year period and they don't have the correct part for it, they replace your camera with the newer version. While I seriously don't want to be without my camera, I could be persueded to accept the S3 if the S2 were ever not repairable......

Hope this helps.

looking at resserratings.com, i'd personally not want to risk potential heartache to save a few bucks. obviously YMMV...
