Butterfly gardens @ Port Orleans

Hi there,

I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me what the Butterfly gardens are like in the Mansion section of Port Orleans. I've only heard about them but have never been there.

Are there usually butterflies to be seen? Is it very large? Is there much seating space?

My neice is a big butterfly fan -- if I tell her about this in advance will she be disappointed when she gets there?

When we were there in May, at Acadian house there were small gardens with lots of flowers that the butterflies liked. There were no special types of butterfly to be seen, but it was pretty.

BUMP: Has no one else seen the butterfly gardens? I guess mainly I'm curious to know how likely we are to see butterflies there...

I've heard about the butterfly garden(s), but not much. I'll find out for you when I go next week, but hopefully someone will have the answer for you before I get back!

I've never heard of this. Sounds interesting. Might have to check it out in May.

The butterfly gardens are on the Sassagoula side of Acadian House. In the courtyard there is a butterfly box with chrysalis (sp?) in them - similar to the one that is in the UK gardens in Epcot. If I remember correctly, they are labeled as to what type of butterfly they will become. The butterflies are supposed to like the flowers in the "butterfly garden" hence the name. We stayed at Acadian House last Feb.; we saw the chrsalises but no butterflies. If you ask any of the CMs that you see at POR, they can probably help you. There are plenty of benches in the courtyard for you to sit and watch them if they are around. Hope this helps
