It's a long thread with lots of suggested tweaks and such. But the base of IBC Cream Soda with a dash of vanilla and butterscotch seems to be the starting point.

Thanks a lot!

Based on that thread, I made my own butterbeer tonight and it was awesome! It's still not exactly the same, but it's close enough!

Here is what I did:

1 bottle IBC Cream Soda
1 Teaspoon Butterscotch syrup

Put a teaspoon of butterscotch syrup in with the Cream Soda in a glass and mix

Foam (makes enough for two servings of Butterbeer):
1/3 Cup Heavy Cream
2 Tablespoons Sugar
1 Tablespoon Powdered Sugar
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Put them into a bowl and whip until thick, pour on top of the cream soda...done!

I would leave the butterscotch out of the cream soda but add some to the topping instead. The topping definitely has some butterscotch flavour to it.

The froth is based on egg whites (gleaned from someone's post about egg allergies) so it needs to be handled carefully if you are making it at home.

ETA - my mistake - there's a gluten cross contamination issue at the parks, it's not an egg allergy problem, not sure how they make the froth if there's no dairy and no egg white!

Not a direct answer to your question, but the Universal website has these mugs for sale at $14.95 each:

Don't know if they are the same as have not been yet, would imagine you would have to pay for the price of the mug and then some?

The Butterbeer Mug is a plastic mug that has a raised green Butterbeer label on each side. The bottom of the mug shows the HP logo etc.

I believe it was right at $11 including the Butterbeer (draft) and the cups of draft/frozen were $3-4.
There is a great picture of it on the US Trip thread. The one that is a photo only tour. Beware, that photo trip report has spoilers since the excellent photos put you right in the park.

(p.s. almost every recipe I've read about or tried has no egg whites in them)

I'll try it next time :)

Not sure about the draft version, but DD has an egg alllergy and hasn't had any issues with the frozen Butterbeer. When we ordered, I asked about eggs and was told it was "vegan". Not sure that's accurate, but DD reacts to egg whites in 2.2 seconds, so I'm sure it was egg free at least.

DH and I prefer the draft version, and DD prefers the frozen. I broke down yesterday and bought her the mug of frozen, $10.99 including her Butterbeer. I also tried the Draft of Hog's Head beer in Hog's Head Bar...yummy amber!

My DH and I must be the only ones who didn't fall in love with the stuff. We ordered one of each- regular and frozen. He drank the whole regular one but I only finished about a third of the frozen one before I tossed the rest. It was just way too sweet for me. We both thought it tasted like cream soda with butterscotch flavored flat whip cream on the top.

Try this, take the Vanilla extract and substitute it for 1/2 tsp of rum extract then when it's all mixed together add the 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract and blend...
Still I'm curious because Universal has said countless times "Its not a dairy product AT ALL". Makes me think "SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!" in that we really don't want to know what that cream really is. But the machines (I got a good look at them) are a frothing machine that froths whatever it is cold...maybe it refrigerates the steam?

Ahhh!!! I think all I'll be doing in WWoHP is drinking! :drinking1

I need to try a regular BB, a frozen BB, and a pumpkin juice.

And maybe something a little stronger at Hog's Head. ;)

I can't wait! :cool1:

I'll try to find the thread that told about a situation where a guest was not allowed to get a butterbeer without the froth, and there were concerns about an egg allergy, and how someone else had been told by a Universal employee that the froth was based on egg whites. An employee had run out from the back of the restaurant to stop the child from drinking the butterbeer.

ETA - I found the thread, and I have made a huge mistake - the froth is not gluten free due to cross contamination, according to the info there. There's a bit about an egg allergy, but nothing specific. I will go back and correct my erroneous posts.

Only 270 more days til I get some more! Sadly looking at my empty mugs!

No problem...thanks for the additional information. I know DD is like a litmus test for eggs, and she had no issues with butterbeer. When I specifically asked about eggs, I was trying to tread lightly since it's a "secret formula" and I'm pretty sure it's not "vegan" like I was told, but as long as it is egg free, we're good!

Yesterday our family was in the WWoHP and we had already decided that we loved butter beer. By 10 AM, the kiosks on the streets had huge lines for butter beer, but I went to the Hogs Mead bar and had virtually no wait to order. I'm guessing as the day wears on, the bar becomes a lot busier though.
