Last trip I vaguely remember seeing reusable/refillable mugs for butter beer. Is that a thing, or is that just what I wanted it to be? :) If it's real, how much for the mug and what are the details?

Yes, they are a thing. If you take your souvenir mug to one of the indoor bbeer locations you get a small discount.

they allowed the bb mugs to be used for refills back in 13 when i was there.
i used my bb mug for a refill.

don't remember the refill cost.
but it was cheaper than getting it in the paper cup.

don't know if prices have changed on that since then.

As of a few months ago, there was no discount. I am not sure as to whether the disposable cup or the Butterbeer mug was larger. It seems like the Butterbeer one is smaller, in which case you are actually losing money.

I've never tried it, because I never wanted to carry around a BB mug all day. I buy mine on the way out of the park (after several disposables, SHHH! hehe)

They say the size is the same, I don't know if it's true or if it's a pre-measured amount that pours from the taps; just what I've heard. I've been told, to get a refill in a BB mug, it's not a discount, you just get the disposable cup price, since you already bought the mug. Again, I've never tried it, just what I've heard/read.

We keep even the plastic cups sometimes, so I have a stash of them, and I just compared. The plastic cup held more water than the souvenir cup.

At the indoor places like the Hog's Head (? Breath? I get confused LOL)?

When we were there we noticed two different styles of the souvenir mugs. One was the normal flat bottom mug another looked somewhat like a goblet. I use the normal mug to drink margaritas out of at home. :thumbsup2

When we were there in August, you could only get soda refills at a discount with the refillable butterbeer mugs. I believe they said was .99 cents but not 100% sure on the price because I never refilled it.

You make a good point.

I have only the flat bottomed one.

We actually have 3 different styles of mugs-not sure if they are all still available though. Two flat bottom and one goblet style. I believe that the one that I got at the Leaky Cauldron last HP weekend was a different flat bottom style than the ones at the carts. They look very similar but the handle is a little different from what I can remember off the top of my head. The butterbeer shop next to the ice cream shop had the goblets in August.

From what I hear, the flat-bottomed mugs are bought in IoA and the goblet-style is in Studios.
There is also a flat-bottomed one at the Hog's Head, in IoA. But that can only be purchased in the Hog's Head for ales/beers, and cannot be refilled.

At one time, towards the beginning of Harry Potter in IoA, they under anticipated how popular butterbeer would be. They didn't order enough mugs, and for a time, had to order some until they could get in more of the ones they currently sell.

The indoor BBeer locations give you a discount with AP, and possibly AAA (They did it January when I was there but that was before the change in AAA discounts).

Johde's right...we used to get a AAA discount at the Hog's Head when getting butterbeer; but AAA keeps changing it up. This past summer (June 2015) no where in any HP area was accepting AAA (although I still ask every place...you never know) ;)

i used to use my AAA and AP cards regularly.
just showed the first one that i took out of my lanyard when going for the discount.
that is when both cards gave the 10% discount.

years prior to that only used the AP as it gave a higher discount of 15%.

now i mainly use the AP unless it is at a restaurant at city walk that accepts AAA.

shame that AAA has changed their policy of using it for discounts on food and merch
