In Chicago at steak houses they serve something called buttsteak. I'm curious how you could look a server in the face and order one of these. :cool1:

I guess its no different than when people tell waiters they will have a breast please when they order chicken!

it's just one of the crazy things I found while living in Chicago.
From a local steakhouse menu

BUTT STEAK The most flavorful of steaks thick and juicy from the top sirloin served with au jus

to be funny maybe they changed the name from
"rump roast", just a thought.

There's a new place (BBQ) that opened in the next town over
and on their menu it says for their chili* good for your bum chili.
I think that's a little odd---------------------------------------------
The new place sent menu's to everyone in the community.

We drove by there the other night and decided to stop for sweet potatoe fries for my dd and the place was packed, so PR does work!!!

2 weeks and counting...................FL :sunny: :moped:

How funny is this. I was out last night with my friends and we were talking about the same thing. Do they only call it butt steak in Chicago?

Butt steak is the best, my usual choice when ordering steak in a restaurant here. Did now know it was Chicagoese.

Hi Dan, excuse my ignorance. What is Chicagoese mean? :confused3

As far as butt steak goes, yeah it is great. I'd have no problem asking for it. No pun intended.

nope. It's a serious cut of meat in expensive steak houses in Chicago. I"ve never seen it anywhere else.

While I lived there I never ordered butt steak, couldn't call sneakers gym shoes, couldn't get pop and sometimes chuckled when folks would refer to the ruff of their houses.

It is a good cut of meat, not too fatty. I am very picky about my steak. I think you can also get it from Market Day.

Dan Murphy - I looked at your link, and I have heard all of them at some point, unfortunately many from family members. It just makes me cringe when I hear someone say they went to the "Jewels". There is no "s" in the store name! And I had heard "frunchroom" many times from neighbors, but I never knew what it meant. I couldn't tell if they were saying "french room" or "front room". I always wondered why they had a room we didn't. We always just called it the living room!
