Butane Cartridges on planes

I'm trying to find a folding or mini curling iron with a barrel 3/4 inch and the only ones I can find so farehave butane catridges that heat them. I am unfamiliar with these and am concerned because butane is flammable. Would these be allowed on a plane - either in checked luggage or carry-on? Thank for any information or help. Any question I have ever had about traveling has been answered here so I thought I would try with this one as well. Y'all are such a wealth of travel knowledge and I thank you for sharing.

Actually, according to what's allowed and what's not...you CAN take a curling iron like that with ONE butane cartridge that is already in the curling iron (no additional cartridges) and the curling iron MUST have a locking mechanism on it to prevent accidentally turning it on.

Curling Iron (with flammable gas cartridge) One curling iron. Safety cover must be over heating element. No spare gas (butane) cartridges allowed.

I work for TSA.

Wow - such quick responses! Thank you everyone. I knew I could count on you for answers. Carriemel - would the curling iron have to be in checked luggage or could it be in carry on? Although I'm really hesitant about this product since it's flammable. I don't want to put anyone's safety in jeopardy just so I don't have flat bangs when I travel. Vanity isn't worth that. But I still do appreciate all of the help on this subject.

Respectfully, given the dimensions - wouldn't it be easier (less confusing/worrisome, plus much cheaper) to just bring the regular-size one you already own? No problems with whether you can bring it on the plane, plus you KNOW it will work the entire time you're away. You can't ensure that with a single-cartridge butane-operated travel curling iron.

You can either check or carry-on.

And like the PP said, might be a better idea just to get a corded curling iron. I've NEVER had good luck with the butane ones. Ever.

Thanks everyone for the good replies. It's good to hear a review of the butane one - doesn't sound promising anyway you look at it. I like to travel as light as possible, if it's just for 5 days or so I just take a backpack or small duffel so I try to save space wherever I can. I guess I'll just keep taking my regular sized one as kaytieeldr suggested. Thanks again for all of the help. I really appreciate it.
