We all have our favourite things, be it songs, movies, people, and the list goes on forever. One thing I've always wondered, is WHY is it that person's favourite? What makes us have the tastes and preferences we have?

So, discussion tags, also known as spoons (like spoon-feeding the topic to you):

To answer my own questions...:

My favourite song is currently a tie between Lucky, by Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat and Better In Time, by Leona Lewis. I love Lucky because it's such a sweet song, and who doesn't want to be in love with their best friend? (Especially when your best friend is Colbie Caillat...) I love Better In Time because it's got a great vocal performance, and the lyrics are so inspired. The song has so much meaning to me, when I'm having one of those days, I just remind myself, "It'll all get better in time."

My favourite movie is Secondhand Lions. It's a strange choice, not many other people say that they like that movie. I love all of the subplots of the movie, such as the mother's abandonment, the truth of the Africa trip, and all of the relatives. Haley Joel Osment also does a great innocent child, playing Sora must have made it easy.

I think that our tastes come from what we're used to, and what feels comfortable. I love country music because it's what I was raised on. When I was around four years old, I'd tell anyone that asked that my favourite song was Independence Day by Martina McBride. I think that what your mind is used to having around, is what your tastes will become later. Also, a random tidbit is that most boys will marry a woman that reminds them of their mother, I think that this is because from an early age, the mother is the most important person in your life.

my favourite songs are: breathe in now - george. because katie noonan has an amazing voice and i can hit the high notes its also a great song.
a widow's song - holly throsby. its beautiful and relaxed. i love the way she sings, its so laid back and easy-sounding.
hurt - thousand foot krutch. the music is great. the singer has this great voice and somehow manages to get so much emotion into it. its amazing.
my favourite songs will probly change be net week lol

my favourite movie is the little mermaid. i love the story and the animation. it makes me laugh and cry. and its a childhood favourite so i guess it evokes certain feelings of security and stuff.

i think our tastes are influenced by our environment, the people we are around and the things we are exposed to. for example, i used to not like the jonas brothers music but its growing on me because my sister always plays it in the car.

and i'll answer the last one coz im cool like that i think we get crazy ideas late at night because we are tired and not thinking straight

The Great Gig in the Sky - Pink Floyd. Because I don't think I've ever heard so much emotion in just 'ahhh's.

Donnie Darko, because Jake Gellinhal (sorry, have no idea how to spell that) reminds me of a friend I used to have. Lame reason, maybe.
But it's also a craaaazy story. (And a good one at that).

What we've experienced/haven't experienced/want to experience.

What is your favourite song, and WHY is it your favourite?
-Better Together by Jack Johnson--because it's such a cute song, I love the actual musical aspects of it, and I love the words, the message, and it reminds me of some amazing times in my life
-Send me on my Way by Rusted Root--for some reason I feel instantly happy when I listen to this song!! I loooove it, and to be honest, I'm not really sure WHY!

What is your favourite movie, and WHY is it your favourite?
-The Notebook--because I feel like I can really relate to it, and every time I watch it, during the "It wasn't over, it still isn't over..." scene my heart feels like it's going to jump out of my chest. I love a movie that can really engage my emotions. Which brings us to...
-Titanic-- again this one just competely gets me wrapped up in it, my emotions are engaged from beginning to end really. And I LOOOOVE the time period as well.

What do you think gives us our unique and individual tastes?
Probably just the fact that everyone's different, and we're all programmed differently. And I definitley think our environment (ie; family, friends, geographical location) has alot to do with it

LOL...I dunno, maybe that's when our creative juices really start flowing.

I have to be honest and say one of the reasons it is my favorite is because my celeb crush Annasophia Robb is in it, but I also love the message of using imagination and how that can help you overcome is a great message.

My favorite song is, hands on, The Gift by Angels and Airwaves. AVA has this really outer spacey feel to them, and I've always been a gigantic space nerd. I first heard them from The Adventure and I freaked when the video came on. I listened to a bunch of their other songs , and one of them was The Gift. The lyrics, to me, are very romantic and it's almost like "oooh I want a guy to say the same to me one day". The guitar riff is amazing all through out the song. Plus, it doesn't help the guitarist is one fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine hunkahunkaburninlove!

I don't have a favorite movie. I can't pick just one. My favorite movies consist of Pearl Harbor, Batman: The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy, A Knight's Tale, Tristan & Isolde, The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and Dumbo for special reasons.

I don't know what gives us our unique tastes and preferences.

I think we get our ideas at night because it's when we really think about ourselves and everything around us. We are most relaxed at that time.

Titanic- I haaaate to admit it. But i apsolutely loooove when the ship sinks. HOLLYWOOD MAKES STUFF ANAZIING.

The Nature vs. Nurture situation. Are we all different because we are naturally all different, or does our surroundings make us all different? Oh dear, i've answered your question with another question.

You're tired. You want to stay up but you can't. Insomnia and exhaustion can do strange things to a person.

- What is your favourite song, and WHY is it your favourite? my favroite song is a toss up between ladies and gentlemen by saliva and paradise city by guns 'n roses. i like ladies and gentlemen because it is a very unique song. it is almost like they talk through the whole thing. it is loud and gets you pumped up, but not in a negative way. as for paradise city, guns 'n roses will always be one of my favorite bands. their old stuff, might i add. the new stuff... not so much. but i just love it. it's a rockin' song.

- What is your favourite movie, and WHY is it your favourite? my favorite movie is fight club. it is very entertaining, and has a lot of good points about society and peoples' outlooks on their lives. plus, i love the fighting action. and... i'm not gonna lie... brad pitt looks pretty good in it. but i would have to say my most frequently watched movie is my raw's greatest moments box set. but that is three discs, so it really doesn't count. XD

- What do you think gives us our unique and individual tastes? i am not sure. i have often wondered. but i like who i am, so i'm not complaining.

Currently, it's "Forever and Always" by Taylor Swift. I love it because I can dance to it. It's not a trashy breakup song (ie "7 Things"), but rather one that you can relate to, and not just girls. Guys can relate to it, too. It has a catchy beat, and the lyrics are well thought-out.

- What is your favourite movie, and WHY is it your favourite?

Currently, Mamma Mia!. Meryl Streep shines in this movie, she truely does. Nailed her vocals for "Winner Takes It All" in one take (amazing). It's nice to see Karen from Mean Girls (Amanda Seyfried) in a different role (gorgeous voice, too). It's a get-happy movie musical, and you can't help but want to get up and dance during it! You leave it forgetting your troubles

- What do you think gives us our unique and individual tastes?

Our personality, and our surroundings. If you grew up in say, a family of actors/actresses, you might've listened to show tunes growing up. This might become your personal style/taste.

They are both from the August Rush soundtack and they are Elgar Something Inside and Bach/Break. The lyrics speak to you, and music placed with it is perfect. When you listen to it, you fell all right and know you can make it thought the day.

I woul go with either Breakfast at Tiffany's or On The Town. For Breakfast at Tiffany's its about finding who you are. and everyone wants to konw who they are, and we dont. it takes while. it shows that you can be afraid for its normal to be. One The Town is for Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly are fiiiiiine

i think its about how each person sees life. Everyone sees life in a diffrent way, so to express that to people they dress that way, talk that way and act the way they do.

B/c your brain isn't thinking about all the other millions of things going on. You have time to let it relax and while you sit there ideas just come to you b/c your not bothered but life.

RENT is my absolute all-time favorite. It's my favorite movie because of the moral and theme. About how you should live each day for what it's worth. And well, pretend as if there's no day but today.

Um, I'm not really sure. Personality probably has something to do with it.
