But it's a really good deal!

anyone else have trouble not spending when you see a really good deal? For some stuff I don't think it matters (things I would normally buy like groceries that will last until I need them) but with travel stuff I get really tempted. Sometimes for cheap accommodation I think it is worth it for a weekend away as a break that I will probably need by that time anyway (and only for really cheap accommodation). Recently I found a really good deal on flights to Orlando... Oh the temptation. I always end up planning travel as a dream around this time of year but now I planned yet another Disney trip and I am sooooo tempted!

Anyone bought stuff they wanted but didn't absolutely need just because the price was so good?

yes. and I am trying to stop doing it,it costs me too much! my email inbox is always overflowing with great offers....I am learning to be more careful,as our income is not infinite.:rotfl2:

Of course its always tempting .... but maybe that's why I'm also joining in the debt dumping 2016 thread :rolleyes1

If I see something for a great price that I know I will buy at some point, I buy it when it's cheap. Though, rarely ever groceries. I don't cook very often. Lol! Our only debt is our mortgage and one vehicle, so I would t go into additional debt over anything, regardless of how good the offer is.

I get tempted too. When I see a good deal I usually try to stop and ask myself if I really need it and if not, is this something that is high up on my want list? Then I run it past DH giving him my pros and cons. If he thinks it is still a good idea, then I buy it. We do this with even mundane things like a $4 pack of 24 batteries from home depot that was just up on slickdeals. We decided we weren't likely to get through that many batteries before they went bad so we passed on the deal.

Yup, it suckers me now & then. DW is even more vulnerable LOL

Holiday clearance! I've been really good this year. Only 3 rolls of wrapping paper (we have sooooo much but I did finish 3 rolls this year) instead of my usual 10. No candy except for one bag of Ghiradhelli peppermint bark with dark chocolate. I still need bags (out completely) but I'm waiting for Meijer to go down to 90% off next week.

This used to be a big problem for me. But the more I've focused on getting rid of "stuff" and not just "not spending money" it's gotten better.

As for travel- we have ended up taking a few of my hypothetical vacations when I eventually found a good deal, but busy schedules prevent me from doing that too much.

This is the very reason I removed myself from so many email lists. I don't need to be tempted! It has definitely helped me stop making purchases like you describe. I also don't tempt myself by going to the mall/target/etc. without a specific purchase in mind.

We had to get a handle on our budget. This helped me a lot.

I'm guilty of it. There's been 2 trips to WDW that were the result of very cheap flights and having an annual pass. I just couldn't pass it up.

I do buy things cheap, even if I don't need them right away, if it's something I will use often and it has a long shelf life. Namely coffee, tissues, toilet paper., dishwasher detergent. I have it all organized neatly and use up as needed. For example, today I got three 12-oz bags of Starbucks coffee for $3.47 total after clearance and gift cards back (usual price is $8.99 each). We drink coffee daily. Why would I not buy a good deal like that? I hardly ever run out of anything, either, which is great.

I buy Easter basket stuff at Christmas clearance for 70-90% off. Why spend full price when I could get the same things for a fraction of that price? Then, when Easter comes around, I'm already done shopping.

And, I also have planned vacations around super cheap airfare. Last summer, I got round trip tickets for five people from PA to FL for $550 total (really awesome price, plus we had enough miles for two free one ways).

yeah.. as pp's have noted also, mu biggest 'deal' weakness is for travel, not for 'stuff'..... we travel quite a bit due to excellent deals I have found....:flower1:

This is something I've been working on. If we don't need it, it doesn't matter what it cost. Sure, we'd eat those Christmas chocolates i bought at 90% off, but we don't NEED them in any way. Travel is slightly different. If it's a good deal and we were looking to go and I have the FUNDS (meaning no debt), I'll buy. Otherwise, i won't

Yep. I have a serious problem resisting deals. I am working on telling myself it isn't saving money no matter how cheap it is if I wouldn't have bought it anyway.

So I am resisting the temptation with the help that it is not a good time to ask for leave at work. I will just keep reminding myself that there will be a good deal on flights again, and by then I would hopefully have more money available for a fancier trip.

I've been trying to stay out of stores and not opening emails from stores to prevent myself from buying things I don't really need just because it's a good deal. I think if you can just not look, it helps.

I've been also trying to declutter so I've also been telling myself "where would you put this" to try to help me realize if I actually need a thing or if it'll just get shoved somewhere.
