Busted for Pool Hopping???

OOooh, my sister and I got busted once! This was about 11/12 years ago when I was probably 16. We honestly didn't know there was a rule against it. We LOVED the WL, stayed there the first couple of years it was open and just HAD to go back. They asked us to show our key card and we were told we had to leave.

That was the second thing we got in trouble for that day. The first was walking from the TTC to the WL! Didn't know that was against the rules either. No sidewalks, no walking. Imagine the security guard as we strolled up the drive to the WL. Hey, now that I think about it, he was probably the one who called someone to check that we weren't pool hopping!!!

I saw a woman being asked to leave the Grand Floridian pool while I was there. She thought that she should have been allowed to swim there since she was paying big bucks to stay on the monorail line she should be allowed to swim in all of the pools at the monorail resorts.

I think its great the they are enforcing the rules!!! Question though, can you still go look around at the pools at resorts you are not staying at? On our off days, we sometimes resort hop to look around at all there is to see, but never in a million years would I think to use another resorts pool. Gosh, I'd be way too embarrassed about getting caught. My Disney time is too precious to me to risk being kicked off property(not sure if they do that or not, but still)totally not worth it IMO:sad2:

I've done this before and have never been questioned. I think you will be fine.

Curiousity question here - how do they know which resort you are from? I am looking at my key to the world card from POR and nowhere on it does it say the resort. Of course, nobody asked for an ID because pool hopping is not a big problem at the mods. Does it say it on the deluxe ones or am I missing something here?:confused3

I once asked this same question and the way a lifeguard could tell where your staying has to do with the numbers at the bottom of your KTTW card, which is a specific code for that Resort.

everytime we went down to the pool we were not asked to see our key cards, but we had to tell them our room number!

This was not done at a WDW Resort, but when my family and I are in Clearwater Beach we stay at the Clearwater Beach Marriott Suites on Sand Key and when you get pool towels they had a list of guests staying there with their room numbers. Before you got the towels you had to tell them how many you wanted and they would put the number you asked for along with a check mark beside your name. So I thought that was good and intresting idea.

I guess we are going to have to rearrange our plans for our upcoming trip. We were going to use one of our afternoons to rent watercraft at Poly for a few hours, use a CS credit there and then let our boys use the waterslide for a bit while we tried our first dole whips, but I guess that would not be allowed. Never really thought of it as pool hopping, just part of the disney magic :lovestruc

Were you doing a search for 'disney magic' when you came across this thread?:confused3
:rolleyes1

Pool hopping seems like a waste of time to me, too. We stayed at the Boardwalk Villas last year and I never saw one person get asked for ID. We did have to show an ID to rent the life jackets but just sitting around/swimming in the pool? I never saw anyone asked :confused3

I think this is a common misconception for people who aren't that familiar with WDW. Pool hopping actually used to be allowed if you were staying anywhere onsite when I was a little kid. The restriction got put into place as more resorts popped up.

This person stated that they were going to change their plans, so I'm not sure I see the need for the sarcasm. JMHO and if I'm misinterpreting your comment & you meant no sarcasm, I apologize. :goodvibes

When I was at the Boardwalk in May '06 I saw a family kicked out of the pool. They looked so embarrassed, I felt sorry for them. I overheard them saying they had just wanted to take a break from the park and wanted to let their sons try the clown slide.

Jan '05 we saw two different groups kicked out of the pool at WL. My son had taken my GD out to the pool, while I was in the laundry room, doing laundry. The lifegards asked everyone for room keys and neither my son nor my GD had theirs, so my son came to the laundry room to get mine. I walked back out with him and showed the lifeguard my room key, but he still insisted on seeing my son's and GD's, saying that just because I was staying there didn't mean they were. I had to run back upstairs to get their room keys. When I got back, my son and GD told me I had missed all the fireworks. Apparently one of the poolhopping dad's got really irate and started yelling at the lifeguards, a manager was called, and he became even more irate when the manager supported his lifeguards. He started yelling that as much as he was paying for this WDW vacation his family should be allowed to swim wherever he d_ _mn well pleased. They were escorted out by security still yelling.

Ok, on another note.... does that mean that since we are not staying at Poly that we cant rent the water craft??? Just curious because we were looking forward to that and possibly the fishing there. Something to do thats a little more laid back since we are staying at WDW for 9 days :yay:

That is fully allowed. We always hop over to the Poly and rent watercrafts, grab lunch and sometimes drinks while we get a hair wrap etc and have a realx day---We have this planned for our upcoming trip----just we don't use thier pool.

We have seen them check at the Poly often. Since it is so close to TTC. Especially during the hours of 12-4 when it gets very crowded.

When I stayed at Beach Club last year.... they wouldn't let you on the pool deck without showing your room key

I've seen then ask families to leave at the Poly a few times. One family was staying at the Wilderness Lodge. I don't know where the others were staying though. They were all quite embarrassed though.

 When pool hopping gets really out of control, Disney could save a ton of time and money by appointing select DIS members as the "pool police." Some people here (generally speaking) seem to have more passion for this 'problem of epic proportion' than the actual Disney employees. :goodvibes They'll be easy to spot: Disgruntled guest worrying about others, wearing a frown and not having fun.:rolleyes1 If they aren't by the pool, they are probably stalking the mug vandals at the beverage islands or reporting the guests sans armbands on EMH night.
