What do you think?

obviously not excessive drinking but when you go to a business dinner do you drinkl?

Not that I have been to one, but I think it would be more prudent not to.

I generally am with clients and I follow thier lead. If they drink I will have a glass of wine, if not I don't.

I work for a company that is based in Germany. Whenever my colleagues from Germany are in the States we have to go out for dinner. They always want steak since it is not so good in Europe. We eat our rare filet mignon and drink several beers together. It it's a nice place, we have a glass of grappa.

Of course we don't drive after this. We take a taxi back to our hotel. I just did this on Thursday.

DH and I do not drink. When we go to press conferences and media events, most of the manufacturers will serve alcohol with dinner. We have even been to some that have an open bar at breakfast at 8:00 am!

Let's just say that we are of the few who do not imbibe - and that by day's end (at various shows we will maybe go to 10 press conferences in one day) we are usually the only sober ones!:earseek: We've seen a lot of crazy stuff.....::yes::

My DH usually orders expensive bottles of wine when entertaining clients ($200 once:eek: ) . When he's just out to dinner while out of town, he'll drink, but nothing grossly expensive. They don't drink enough to get drunk though. They just enjoy a nice bottle of wine.

We used to have beers at lunch when our group went out.

These were not lunches with customers, though.

I have done both. I generally prefer a diet coke, but have on occasion had some wine with dinner. I have seen some colleagues get very drunk. It's embarassing.

Erin :D

I think it also depends on what type of business meeting it is. If you're meeting with the chair of the local MADD chapter, probably no drinks. If you're meeting with someone from Anheuser-Busch, then it's probably a lot more acceptable.

Not me. I'll have lemonade or a virgin drink. I've also seen people show another side of themselves when they have had to much liquor at work functions.

If I do, it's ONE glass of wine.

And I generally follow the lead of the group.

My rule is not to drink with co-workers. If I do it is one glass of wine. I've seen my co-workers get really crazy, I don't want to be seen in that light.

I usually have business lunches, not business dinners. But, no--I would not drink at either. It's hard to embarass yourself when you stick to iced tea or soft drinks. Well, I could probaly still do it--but you understand my drift!

We used to have a VP who would come to town, take us out to dinner and get generally liquored up. He was a three martini guy and was happy to get anyone else anything they wanted. With him it was more like a party than a business dinner. I prefer water or tea on biz dinners, or anytime I'm driving
:D

There are many times I couldn't get through one of those things without a drink - particularly if it's my husband's business associates, I don't know them, and I don't understand/care what they are talking about.

I have 1 1/2 to 2 glasses of wine almost every dinner, so it's not like I'm not used to that. I wouldn't have more than that.

interesting points thank you :)

I think Wolverine probably hit the nail on the head it would largely depend on who youre with.

DH's boss regularly takes us out to dinner when he's in town ( just to socialize not a business dinner, but I always get the feeling he's keeping track anyway you know?) and I will have one drink usually a Mudslide, but the boss and dh will each have a couple of beers throughout the course of the night. Of course I am always the designated driver because I usually have my drink before dinner and then 2 hours later when we finally get out of there ( dh's boss is a TALKER) I feel like its gone enough that I can drive.

It always makes me uncomfortable though to be with someone who drinks too much. Especially at a business dinner.

Im going to a conference in Vegas next month and know I will not over imbibe ( I outgrew that in my late teens  ) but I just know that at some point there I will have to deal with it.
