Bush tax cut: Did your taxes go down?

July 13, 2004 | WASHINGTON (AP) --

The government's deficit ballooned to $326.6 billion in the first nine months of the 2004 budget year, according to a snapshot of U.S. balance sheets released Tuesday.

That's more than 20 percent larger than the $269.7 billion shortfall for the corresponding period last year. For the current budget year which began Oct. 1, this spending has totaled $1.73 trillion, 6.4 percent more than the same period a year ago. Revenues came to $1.40 trillion, 3.5 percent more than the previous year.

And the relevance of this news byte to the tax cuts is... ???

Nope. We are "rich" according to the government and we paid more. Married, 2 kids, own home. We did not get the extra $400 per child and got hit with the Minimum Amount Tax. Oh, but the tax cuts really just helped the rich, whatever. I'm not complaining, it is what it is. Just hate it when everyone says that the tax cut were for the rich. We are not rich, btw, dh just makes more than most. If by rich, they mean the truly wealthy like Bill Gates, George W., John Kerry, etc. then I don't know, maybe it did help them, but not us.

Yep, the AMT is a nightmare that I'm hoping will be changed in the near future. Without adjustments for inflation, it is a ticking time bomb for middle class families.

If we start to finally slash social programs & government handouts, we can start to cut away at the deficit.
