We have heard various different things when we call. This last trip our Service Dog was not with us. Sometimes we bus, monorail or drive. Depends on location and kids needs.

My question is where do we go to board a bus with a dog? At the DVC resorts it is a no brainer, your under your location with no line. But say leaving MK after wishes or in general?

We skip the popular times but do stay out for the Fireworks. It is Disney. We go back in March and I am gearing up. We had some bus drivers last time tell us when we leave a park and it is crowded to stand in the handicap area so they can see there is a dog. We have also heard to split up, dog and handler in the same area and family in the line. We do not mind waiting and we wait patiently for seats when needed.

TY kindly

I think what is confusing is they asked me will there be a wheel chair, no. Second, how big the dog is. I suppose that matters??? Dunno :confused3 but he is about an 80 pound Lab.

To drive or bus to MK, that is the question LOL. My husbands hates driving into HS due to the so few lines leaving and coming in.

Sorry Disney came out a couple months ago with a new que system. Basically they want everyone to go through the main que in mk once you enter the que after the first turn you will see a gate with a wheelchair symbol go trough that and wait. At the other parks just have to go through the whole que and be loaded. Most if the drivers don't like the policy and will tell you as you seen to just go around and wait by where the back door would be.

If your traveling party will be 6 or less you all can go trough the back door. Now it up to you how to board meaning you go first someone holds the dog you ferried down then so boards. Or your dog boards with someone and then you board it what you most comfortable with or if you think you both can load together then you can. If your party is 7 more the rest would have to wait in the main que and might have to take another bus if their no room. Your only allowed 6 people through the back door.

Sorry I thought you be in a wheelchair I am very sorry. I don't think it matters the front door large enough for the dog I guess they think you might need the ramp to board but the driver can kneel the bus. U would take the bus to mk because it be less nodes of transportation.

Again sorry I thought you needed a wheelchair that why they would tell you to wait in the wheelchair que. maybe they thought you would bring a Great Dane on the bus with it lying down it might take up the whole bus lol.

TY kindly for helping me. I have been nominated to sort things out, lucky me. There will be just the 4 of us, 2 adults, 2 kids. We thought we would use the line if we took the bus. All the changes and information is sometimes confusing.

Anyone have experience or tips on boarding a crowded bus with a big dog.

Yes it is plus if you take away the wheelchair they might also be confused on where to tell you to board. I say if you don't mind standing if it crowed and the driver will let you to have them open the back door and load that way and stand their just because when you get to your stop you be first off and if it share with other resorts or mulitable stops you wouldn't have to worry. Or try and be the last one on through te front door and stand their in a safe spot. On the nova their to seats that face the front that right behind the driver if you could get that then that would be a good place out of the way and it he safe for him and you.?

Your a gem. You have me picturing this in my head now which is a good thing when planning. DH and I are good to stand. One son is iffy, but the other has issues that there is no way I would allow him to ever stand again on a bus. Sadly, I learned that in a VERY hard way and so did the ppl on the bus :(

TY :)

I would think with the dog, it would be best to enter from the rear. These are boarded first. This would allow you to settle the dog and kids before everyone else starts boarding. If possible, I would try and have the dog get under the seats, especially the buses where you are traveling sideways, or go to the very back of the bus to keep the dog from getting stepped on.

that also another reason the drivers said to wait in the wheelchair area so they can see the dog to give you some extra time to board and find seats. if you can you could if you think it going to be a full bus take the seats closest to the back door and have the kids ah dh or you sit their and if it full have the other person stand by the back door. so you would still be together. the only time it might be busy it park closing mid day you shouldn't have a problem

Occasionally I see people with service dogs board the bus in NYC. They board through the front line as usual, but the driver asks those in the front designated disabled seats to get up for them if they are taken. Some of the seats the dog can sit under, and sometimes the dog sits right in front of or between their legs. People are generally good about giving the dog some space.

In the past we always waited in the wheelchair area so they could see the dog (large lab) and so we could board first. I haven't gone with a dog since the new queue rules have been implemented. Frankly I'd find it a little silly and dangerous to board any other way. The dog needs to be safe just like humans do and it's far faster/easier/safer to board first and get the dog tucked out of the way than try to board in the midst of everyone stampeding on with strollers or what have you. That being said, it still may be best to avoid prime travel times or just be willing to wait for the next bus so that you can board first on that one.

And depending on the size and use of the dog (basically if you don't have a wheelchair) you don't have to use the handicap seats. We would use the seats that were situated like a school bus..I can't think of how else to describe it...and back the dog in first and then sit on the outer seat. That way the dog was tucked in out of the way and no one would try to use the second "empty" seat.

If the bus has a lift at the rear, (if Disney uses these any more) instead of a ramp, load from the front...Do not endanger your dog taking it on a lift. Ideally you would train your dog to wait in a down stay at the front of the line you were waiting in as you board, if there is a lift. Then, you would call the dog to board at the front of the bus after you get settled. No wheelchair? You board then call the dog to board. The step entrances to the buses are very narrow and there is little room for a person plus a big dog to board there at the same time safely:drive:. A service dog may ride regardless of size.

Their so few I wouldn't worry but your right I wouldn't use the lift with the dog.

Op I would suggest if a lift bus comes wait for the next one because those have a narrow stair fade and is dark. So not sure if the dog would be comfortable getting on and off. It up to you what you do you know your dog best so if one shows up and you don't want to board just ask the driver to radio dispatch and ask if the next bus is a low floor and if not could they send one sooner so you don't have to wait to long.
