About how much time should I plan to take the bus from wl to downtown disney? I read on someones trip report it took 1 hour and 45 minutes due to stops made. Just wondering if this is the exception or the rule.

That's definitely an exception rather than a rule. The last time I stayed at WL was 2008 and I can't remember exactly how long it took, but it wasn't longer than a 1/2 hour.

It was only 30 minutes to DTD. We stopped at Ft. Wilderness and then at one of the waterparks on the way.

Now the way back to the resort was another story. That was definitely an hour and a half. Next time I decided I'll be taking a cab back to the resort when I'm done with DTD.

This was Friday night of Mother's Day weekend in 2011.

I don't think it was that long, but it was probably close to an hour for us the one time we took the bus from WL to DTD. We left WL and went all the way to the GF (which I thought was CRAZY), then backtracked past the turn-off for WL to go to DTD. It seemed very roundabout and took a long time.

I don't know what the deal is with DTD, but we have had terrible luck with buses there and back. We had the same experience as quoted above and it feels like forever. It was worth the cab fare to us getting home after an hour+ trying to get back one time.

We've had horrible luck getting buses to Downtown Disney from Wilderness Lodge, Poly, Grand Floridian, and the Beach Club. Each time we have had at least a half hour wait for the bus to arrive. We just sat and watched buses for all the other locations coming multiple times before we ever got a DTD bus. Beach Club and Grand Floridian it was longer than half an hour because both times the first bus was completely full, and we had to wait for a second. With the waits for the bus to get there, I don't think it has ever taken us less than an hour to get to DTD. I think getting there from WL was probably the fastest we have gotten there, and even that probably took an hour. We don't usually rent a car, so it is to the point with us, that DH and I don't even want to go to DTD anymore. We only go if DD begs. Unlike the old days, now you can find almost all the same Disney merchandise in the parks and resorts anyway.

Personally my family and I like to avoid taking the Bus to Downtown Disney because in the past we had long waits when taking it from the Contemporary and when going back there. It seems to be a problem with the Magic Kingdom Resorts and Epcot Resorts. Since we always happen to have a car while we are at WDW we can drive to Downtown Disney and it takes us no more then 15 minutes. So if you have one I would highly recommend taking and if you don't then I would recommend a Taxi.

i just wanted to post back after the trip. The buses were really not bad at all so maybe they are working on this. Maybe I just had really good timing. lol we didn't have to wait long at all for the bus either way and the ride was not that long. maybe 25 minutes each way.
