Buns didn't thaw properly?

Luckily, bread goes BOGO around here from time to time, so I just stock up and throw any extras in the freezer. We've never had a problem, until now.

I had 2 packages of hot dog buns in the freezer (bought at the same time). Defrosted the first package last week and ate them with no problem. I pulled the second package out this weekend, defrosted them, and they're hard!

I've never had that problem before. Has anyone else? Any ideas on how to prevent this in the future (it's never happened with our regular sandwich bread).

sounds like maybe they're a little stale, now that they're defrosted. you might try popping them in the microwave for just a few seconds. that should soften them up.

i might try the micro too.....sometimes I use hot dog buns for garlic bread... spread with garlic butter and toast them in the broiler.....yum and no waste!

OoOo that sounds delicious! i'd never thought of using hot dog buns.

we also use them from french toast sticks!

Put a damp paper towel over them and heat them in the microwave for about fifteen seconds. The towel acts as a "steamer" of sorts and will help put some moisture back in them.

Awesome, thanks for the ideas. I'll try to fix them tonight: we're making fish sandwiches (like from McD's) out of them! (Last week we made tiny meatball subs, lol)

Personally I'd toss them. I've never had luck with fluffy bread and rolls freezing well. I usually buy them when needed and just toss the leftovers or feed them to the ducks.
