I am need of some bunk beds- 2 little boys that share a small room. I know that they can't be on top of the bunk until they are around 6. As a result I was looking at ones with full beds on the bottom so they could share down there until they felt comfortable going up top. (one of them turns 6 in october)
That one is Pottery Barn Kids(which I have bought before and while I am not thrilled with the stuff with drawers- the beds have all been ok actually I only have one but that one has been ok- my daughter's bed)

The other one I am looking at is Berg bunkbeds- and while I think they are "safer" in that they have stairs vs. a ladder I am not sure how long they would like that setup? I can't imagine a 12 year old liking those stairs? But maybe?

So anyone have either types of bunk beds? one costs about $1000 less so of course I am also taking that into consideration.

How about a trundle bed? It is the size of a twin and the second twin size bed slides out from underneath it. Both boys get their own bed and the second one slides under it for room to play on the floor. Just a thought.

My sons started in Bunk beds when they were 4 and 6. I did not let the "play" on them. I took the ladder off during the day or when little ones were visiting to ensure that no horse play occurred and thus no broken bones. I noticed a friend of mine's bunks have a ladder that the kids have to actually go over the top rail and that bothered me. We have solid wood bunks that the rail was sort of cut out for the ladder and that break down to 2 nice twins. So as they grew bigger, I broke them down to 2 twins. It was a nice investment and I do think they cost less than 1k.
Good Luck :goodvibes

We are buying our kids bunkbeds after we move next month. We are getting a twin over full from Pottery Barn Kids and adding a trundle to the bottom so it's like having 2 twin beds and 1 full sized bed. We have a 5 yr old and 2 yr old sharing a room. The 5 yr old would probably like the top bunk but be afraid once I leave the room (my 5 yr old) and then he could sleep with his brother on the full or we could pull out the trundle and he could sleep there? I've seen somewhere a type of cover you can put on the ladder for a bunkbed to keep little kids off of it and we plan on buying one. If we can't find one then we will put it on only at night? Haven't worked it all out yet but we are def. getting the twin over full AND a trunddle. lol
