We are planning on staying at the Nick Hotel for one night before we start our vacation at Disney and my son who is almost 5 would probably prefer to have a room with bunk beds, but the ones I have seen in the pictures look like they are metal and do not have any rails on the to keep him from falling out. Can someone who has stayed there before please describe the bunkbeds for me?

Hi! It's been four years since we were there and that is when it was a Holiday In.

However, they had a policy of the child being six in order to have a bunk bed in the room. I don't know if that has changed with the ownership change but you might want to check into that. (we actually lucked out since they had no "non-bunkbed rooms left" so they were forced to give us a bunkbed, but I think we had to sign something. The front desk was very clear that she would not have given me that room if she had a non-bunk room available, and my daughter was also very excited about the bunk bed. I just don't want you facing tears at the beginning of your vacation because you get the wrong room) Maybe someone who has stayed more recently can clarify that or you might want to call the hotel.

I know this doesn't really answer your question and only gives you more to think about!

That said - the pool and environment there are wonderful! Have a great trip!

when we were there last October, my son was only 5 and they didn't make any mention of a minimum age.(he slept on the bottom anyway). It makes sense that they had this policy, I'm just wondering why it was never mentioned.

We just toured Nick two days ago and the bunk beds don't look unsafe at all. They are wooden structures, not metal, and both of us feel they look quite sturdy. They are enclosed on 3 sides by the walls, with only the front being somewhat open to allow access. Other than the opening, there is a large rail across the front. I can't quite imagine a child falling out, even if they're only 5.

We stayed there twice in the past couple of years, although it was before it became Nick, I'm sure the beds are the same. My kids were 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 our first trip and we got the room with bunk beds, no questions asked. Our second stay was 2 years later, and I do remember there was a sign on the wall by the top bunk staing that it was not recommended for children under a certain age (I think 6 or 7). Maybe they have had a liability issue and are now enforcing it.

We stayed in July and they gave us something that said bunk beds were not for 5 year old and under. DDs 6 and 7 slept in them and I'm sure ds (5) would have been fine. They were definitely stury and except for the ladder opening they did have a rail.
