It will be our first trip home to OKW in July (can't wait for the minnie DIS meet on the 23rd). I would like to stay close to the hospitality house (63,64) and I recall reading on some post about certain buildings not having bathtubs!!!!!! I need a bathtub for my (5,2) DD's because showers just don't work for them.

I know it is late to request a certain building to MS and my chances may be slim to none but I welcome all suggestions. A bathtub is important to us!!!!!

Thanks

All studios have a bathtub. All 1BR and larger villas have a jacuzzi in addition to the shower. You should be OK with any building.

I haven't stayed in a studio for a long time, but I believe they have a combination tub/shower. Anything larger has the jacuzzi.

We ended up in a handicap room once, and the shower was different (walk-in, no lip at the bottom, and grab bars), but I don't remember if it was a studio or 1-br. You may want to request a non-handicap room or upper floor to aviod this.

I think what you may have seen is someone's description of a handicap-accessible unit, some of which are designed without regular tubs. Other than that all units have tubs (jacuzzi style in 1 and 2BR).

Thanks everyone. Saved me from calling MS!!!

Don't know about the new buildings with elevators but all of the handicapped studios have a funny shower and no tub. I believe about 60% of the first floor rooms are handicapped rooms. I'm not sure the breakdown when it's a 2 BR handicapped. If you want to be sure, ask for other than first floor.

I don't think that 60% of the first floor rooms are handicapped. We always stay in a first floor room because we have a child who uses a wheelchair. We have never specifically said we wanted a handicapped room and have only gotten one the one time we did ask for one. When you look at the parking lots, there are only a few marked handicapped spots in each lot (like 2). If 60% of the ground floor units were handicapped units, I think they would have more than 2 parking spots per lot.

I know that's what I was told by a DVC, can't remember if it was at the Front Desk or by MS. I know a lot of people have gotten them when they didn't want them. We've had one every time we were on the first floor in a studio. Maybe someone else knows for certain.

We've stayed in a 1st floor studio, and it had a regular tub & shower combo. I think it depends on what bldg you are in, if it has a handicap-accessible shower or not.

Here's the information I got when I emailed member services to ask how many wheelchair accessible units there are at OKW:

Hello Sue.

Thank you for contacting Member Services.

There are 19 studios at Old Key West that are Handicap accessible, 19 one bedrooms, 20 two bedrooms and 1 grand villa. These are the rooms with the roll in shower.
A member may always request a non- ADA room when they are
requesting a first floor room, however they are only requests and not guaranteed.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Have a Magical Day!
Penny

Thank you so very much for the information. I figure I will just wait and see what we get when we get there!!

Thanks again.

You can always ask when you check in just to make sure before you get all the way to the room. But, your chance of getting a room with only a shower is not that large. And if you have a one or two bedroom, you will still have the tub with the jacuzi. That doesn't go away in a wheelchair accessible room.

I assume that's 20 dedicated and 19 lockoff 2 BR units or 39 2 BR units, plus one GV. Still a pretty big chunk but much less than the 60% I was told. Just check at the front desk when they assign your room and make sure it's on your request. Good luck.
