Read somewhere on these boards about this. Does anyone have more info on this?
I'd like to check it out on our upcoming trip. The post I read said that you built them, they could battle other robots and then you got to take them home. Is this true? Which Innoventions?

It is in Innoventions East at the Fantastic Plastic Works. You listen to a presentation on plastic and then get to build a virtual robot that you run in a race. You control the robot by running and jumping on a mat. After the race is over you get to assemble a plastic robot. It's about six inches tall.

This was one of my favorite things in Future World! When we went, you not only raced, but everyone who was participating voted on the best looking robots. (Mine came in first for the race, but that was because I was in a wheelchair and got to use my hands to make him run instead of running on the little pad thing)

Very very cool! :cool1:

Our kids DD10 and DS6 both loved doing the virtual race. They also both loved picking out the different color parts for their robot to take home. I'm so glad I read about it here on the boards before our trip in January. The kids love to take them apart now and re-assemble them in different colors since we got 4 of them. It's well worth the time to do this. ::MinnieMo

If you have the time...do it! We lucked into it about 10 mintes before the afternoon rains hit so line was not bad at all. My DS still plays with the robot pieces...made for a great little souvee that was free..better yet, came with great memories of the kids picking them out and making them on thier own...and all the pieces are interchangeable so they can make the toys different colors etc. Work in the pool as they are plastic and break apart fpr easy packing. If you are there in summer, it is a nice way to cool off also!

My grandsons, 6 & 7 yrs. absolutely loved this event. It does take a little time to hear about plastics and then go to the computer to design your robot to race, but well worth it at the end to make your own plastic robot. The plastic machine is right there making the robot pieces and dumps them into the bin where you pick out your different colored pieces. My 6 yr. granddaughter did this in January and loved that her computer designed robot got 1st place for style!! She was very particular about the colors of her robot pieces as well. Talk about a nice free souvenir!!!
Don't miss this; definitely worth the time.

My 7 your old loved this last summer, in fact, we had to go through it 3 times during our stay. He still gets his robots out and plays with them.

Thanks to theses boards we are going to try it on our next trip, I think my kids will love it.

Lke elan said, thanks to he people on these boards we are going to try this next year. We didn't even know it was there.

My kids loved this and wanted to go back later in the week to do it again. My 9 year old won the race and we all had a great time doing it. I helped out my 4 year old -- so glad no one was taking pictures! :)

My older and younger sons did this together last year. I think they had a lot of fun, but the wait was horrible (and the line wasn't that long). I wouldn't mention it to a child unless it's a short wait, pouring outside or an extreamly hot day & you just need to chill.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but there's also a recycled paper-making station near this (great for the scrapbook!)

We did this and had so much fun! Here is a picture of the robot my kids helped the baby make. They let her pick out all the colors and then put it together for her.

My kids went back to Plasticworks a few times also, on different days.

The robot race was fun for adults and kids. I broke a sweat trying to win the race - I was ahead until I ran into a wall that I had trouble with. pirate:

My kids loved being able to build the robots and take them home and trade parts.

The normal sequence is listen to the presentation on plastics, then the robot race, then build the robots, but you can bypass the robot race and go right to building robots. But I don't think you can skip the plastics presentation because others are ahead of you in the race area.

Is this a fairly permanent feature? We were there last june and didn't notice it- although we were hurried thru it a bit cos mum doesn't like it in there! Sounds brilliant, so unusual to get free things to take home as well :thumbsup2
