I need to get a Build a Bear girft card. What amount do you think would be good to actually "build a bear", get a cool outfit, etc.

Also, anyone aware of any discounts or deals? I can order it online or go into the store, although it will probably be easiest for me to order it online.

Bears start at $10 but go up to around $25. Outfits are normally around $12.50 depending on how many pieces there are. Shoes are normally around $6. It is easy to spend $35/40 even with a coupon.

My MIL gets Build a Bear giftcards for my kids every Christmas for $25. That just about covers the animal plus maybe shoes or an accessory, I end up spending an extra $45 or so for the outfits. So I would think maybe $40 would cover the bear, outfit and and accessory.

Well the bears run from $10 up to about $25 I think. . most being in the $15 range. Outfits can be simple. . .maybe $10 to pretty elaborate. I would think with a $25 GC that most kids could find something. . .but $30 or $40 might be better. With that they could get a simple bear and a nice outfit. . or a more expensive bear and a basic outfit.

I found these deals. . .

$5 off your $25 or more purchase in store with coupon or online with promo.code 95519. Valid thru 12/24/10

or

$10 OFF ORDERS OF $30 or more with promo code 95486 through 12/31/10.

but I don't know if they will work on GCs.

I would give $30 to $40 if you want them to get clothes and accessories. I am giving $15 gift cards that's all that's in our budget for some cousins.

I am wondering also if the codes work on gift cards??

I think $30 would be fine. If it's a young child and you want them to have something to open you could buy an unstuffed animal(they will give you the house box and you can fold the roof down flat to wrap) with a gift card inside for an outfit when they bring it in to make it.

As far as coupons with gift cards, think if the cards like cash. Generally there are no discounts on cash, but when you spend it you can use a coupon to get a discount. Almost all coupons can be used with gift cards but only very rarely(groupon etc) do you get a discount on the gift card.

My daughter goes every December with her daddy. We get a $25 GC and usually there is a coupon out. This year she has $25 GC and a coupon for $10 of off $30.00. This will help stretch her gift card.

I just ordered a GC for my DN whose birthday is next week for $50. I wanted her to be able to build the bear she wants and not have my SIL have to worry about not having the money to cover any extra's.

$30 minimum- if you can afford $40 that would be even better.

I personally wouldn't give less than $30. If I can't afford that much, I'll buy a GC for somewhere else. I hate giving gifts that end up costing the child's parents more money. I also include batteries with gifts if the gift requires them.

Thanks, all!

Oops...I neglected to mention that the GC is for my own kid. :) (It's on her Christmas list.) So if there is extra to be paid, it will be out of my pocket anyway...LOL

I guess I'll do a $40, and then if it goes a little over when she "builds her bear", that will be okay.

There was a promo last week, they had the same deal last year, if you spent $30 you got a $10 gc. That 30 can be in gift card form, too! I'm not sure if it's still going on. My kids will spend an average of $30 for an animal and outfit.

I would say $40-50. Everytime we've gone the kids have picked animals that were around $22-25, $12-15 for an outfit, then of course they have all the 'extras' they love to buy.

You are all nicer moms than me! :) I let my DD get an animal, but we usually just do the free bows and ribbons.

The past two things she's built: The first was free with a $5 off coupon and $10 in rewards ($15 kitty). The second was just last weekend with the $12 coupon that was sent to my in-box. She built an $18 snow bear, so it cost us $6. I usually only go when I have coupons.

Also, get on their mailing list. They send my DD $5 off coupons all the time, sometimes they are $5 off or free accessory. The coupons usually come on the anniversary of the bear being built or on DD's b-day.
