My niece is coming to town this weekend, and one of the things she wants to do is go to Build-A-Bear. I'd like to take her, since it sounds like fun and we don't get to spend a lot of time together. I'm totally clueless about this, though. Can anybody explain how it works and give me an idea of how much I should expect to spend?

Don't know what the cost is, but I would assume it would be related to how much bear you build. From what I have seen in the stores, you pick a bear, get him stuffed, and then dress him/her in all sorts of outfits. Of course the size and quality of the bear and fill will affect cost. I think it would be a great idea for you and your niece. Have fun!!

Here's the website: http://www.buildabear.com/

You can spend as little as $10 up to as much as you want. The animals are 10 to 25, I think. The outfits are $8 or $12. There are many accessories or voice mechanisms that range in price. Have fun. :sunny:

My DD and her BF spent $200 on a cow that they built at Build a Bear. But their cow has more clothes than I do.

LOL the clothes part could make a tag lol

Basically, you go in and pick out a skin. They fill it up with the filler, you get to 'give it a bath' 'give it a heart' 'give it a birth certificate'. That costs anywhere from 15$ to 20$ just for the bear/cat/dog whatever animal your niece chooses. You can also add sounds too it for $3, for example, if its a dog you can add a barking sound. Then you can buy it clothes which can range anywhere from I believe 3$ to 10$.

You'll have a great time. The people are all very friendly and helpful. I have 9 Build a Bears, (my DH says I have an obsession) and they are such fun to make. I would say I average about $40 an animal. I always buy them shoes and panties! :Pinkbounc

I have extra clothes for my bears, but you don't have to do that. How old is your neice? She may just want to have it sit on her bed and not change it's clothes.

Have her think about what she wants to name it before you get there.

Have fun. :goodvibes

My kids both have a few animals from there. We average $25-35 per visit. That is for an animal and an outfit.

Go to their website and you can get a very good idea of what is available and prices. They have some very cute Disney outfits-princesses, Buzz, etc. Make sure you get the house/box they put it in. It can be hard to decide so be prepared to be there awhile!

Like everyone said its lots of fun....and you can spend as little or as much as you want...I lucked out last time because my god daughter only wanted a red tee shirt for her bear...I on the other hand put mine in a 20dollar outfit....
but enjoy....half the fun it dressing them up and changing your mind and then doing it all over again....(we've spent up to three hours just picking out clothes)

I spent a little over $40 for my bear and her clothes, so far. DD paid about the same for her monkey.

Be aware that if she chooses a skirt, she should get panties. My little bear needs panties in the worst way. :rotfl: I finally put her in shorts until I get a chance to buy her a pair of panties.

It's very cool and very fun for the little ones. We have a few of our own and small collection of clothes.

The one thing that took us by surprise the first time was how long the whole process takes. We ended up having to skip other plans because getting the bear took over an hour! The store here is usally filled with at least one party and the lines are like a Disney stand-by entrance.

Build a Bear fastpass please! :teeth:

I've never spent less than $100 at Build a Bear. But, that's because I always get suckered into thinking the bear needs a casual outfit, a dressy outfit, and pajamas and something to sleep on. :confused3

The thing about Build-A-Bear that I don't like (besides the price of the clothing) is that it SEEMS as if it should be more entertaining. For $100, I guess I expect a couple of hours for the kids. And, in reality, it's very fast. . . unless your kids can't decide on an outfit, I guess. But, I wish the process of building the bear took a little longer.

We spent about $45 on my grandsons karate bear. Most expensive stuffed animal I ever purchased, but he had a great time building his bear. The process was pretty quick. The longest parts were picking out the clothes and naming the bear!
