Anyone else bummed about the store closings?

We have taken the kids twice and each time our oldest has picked out a car at RideMakers and had a blast and it's a great memory souvenir. Neither of them are in to plushes so they have to never wanted to BaB but it's been fun looking around. I'll miss them at DTD, especially if it's just for new dining. I'd rather have more experiences like RideMakers and American Girl.

Ugh. My special needs son made a car there for his birthday last October and loves it. He was planning on doing it again this year. We will be there the first week of October so it looks like we will just miss it.

This is frustrating. I was hoping to take my second son to make a car on our trip next summer since he has never done it yet. Good thing we never told him about it.

I'm very sad....Love taking DGD to BaB.....they have the special disney clothes we can't get anywhere else. Do you think they will move offsite, somewhere close?
And was so looking forward to take DGS to RideMakers.....but he isn't old enough yet :(

I just want to know what restaurants will go there?

Good riddance to BAB and Ridemakerz...BaB is at almost every mall anyway. Ridemakerz is overpriced junk. We have 2 of the cars and they are crap quality.

I'm glad that Build A Bear is going bye bye. It's at almost every other mall. I hope that they put in some other store that's not a run of the mill "you can find the store everywhere" sort of place. Hope that they don't put a restaurant there.

Oh no! DD has always loved the special Disney Build a Bear bears and clothes that you can not get in the regular stores. So sad that will be gone. I guess with the store gone they will not manufacture it anymore. We bought Disney specific items in there every year until this year. DTD seems to already have enough dining- sad that they are moving out stores kids love for more restaurants.

I'm really curious to see what they plan to do with the space. I wonder if they'll be bringing in more of the restaurants or stores they have in Disney Springs. We are excited about the change from House of Blues to Splitsville.

Those shops didn't interest my family so we won't miss them. But I have friends we wouldn't think of missing a trip to BaB

I'm definitely quite upset about this.

I usually buy a new outfit or accessory from BaB for my travel panda Peking almost every time I go to DLR. Not only do I get a small discount at only that location, but they have location specific products I can't find at other locations (that are all quite a drive away from me). I just find it feels more magical than other BaBs I've been in too.

Guess I'll have to hope I can get the time off to visit my cousin soon so I can make a detour to DTD before they close and just grab whatever I've been eyeing (assuming anything is still in stock by the time I get there).

noooooooooo! It's bad enough a bunch of BaBW around me have closed AND there isn't one where I'm moving to, but that DTD one was always super convenient whenever I was in SoCal since I was about 95% certain to go to DLR! I've had Filbert, my Treckin' Turtle for almost seven years now and he's collected so many stamps in his Pawsport, been to every Disney park with me, and I've gotten him so many Disney exclusives there. :guilty::sad:

I have a slim chance of being back to DLR towards the end of August, arggh, will it still be there? More dining? *sobsobsob*

The article mentions by the end of September so hopefully still open when we get there at the start of September

The article I read said that they are getting rid of those stores to make room for more restaurants.

I think the Downtown Disney needs more and better restaurants. I doubt anything very good will be put in, but I'm holding out hope that I am wrong. I know lots of people often post about how great the restaurants are and I've eaten at all of them, but I'd never call any of them great.

It's too bad they have to remove kids activities, though. There really isn't a lot for kids to do in Downtown Disney at this point. Hopefully, the bowling alley will be exciting.

While I'm not opposed to getting some other dining options in DTD, I wish they could manage to keep a few actual stores going. Not much fun browsing when there's nothing to look at but what you can eat. I'm saddened by the state of shopping--so many of us buy online that brick-and-mortar places can hardly stay in business and most of the ones still around are the same generic stuff you can find anywhere. You can't walk 10 feet, though, without seeing food/drinks. I noticed the same thing in the UK a few weeks ago, so it isn't just here.

I would hope that the new restaurants would provide more variety. It would be nice to have some more 'fresh' options and less of the high fat/sugar/calorie stuff, but that doesn't seem to be what most people are looking for.
