I am leaving in 1 week and suddenly thought of a question! How is the bug situation in So Cal? Mosquitoes? My DD swells with big welts when she gets bit. Do I need to worry? Should I bring bug spray?

Trust me, you don't want to be around if she is itchy.

Thanks

The biggest problem with bug is Nats at DCA. However I believe prevention is the best medicine, so I would buy some bug lotion for your DD.

Not much of a problem with bugs at DLR or in SoCal for that matter. (Not compared to what you're probably used to in Jersey.) There is a tiny problem with hornets in the parking lots and parking garages, though.

HORNETS! Great. And gnats can be truly pesky little buggers. Looks like I am packing the Skin-So-Soft Bug Repellant. Thanks for the help.

(And I am not telling DD about the hornets. Oh my goodness, she would freak before we got there.)

Well I wouldn't get worried about either. I have never noticed any bugs at all in either park. There don't seem to be any biting insects, and I actually have been amazed at the lack of hornets in the parks. I don't know about the garages, but in the parks themselves you will very rarely see a hornet. I think we only saw one in 5 days and it was in downtown disney. Once when we were there we did see a nest being removed and the area was roped off. No problem though.

This is probably too late to help you in Disneyland, but I thought I'd mention that my daughter and I both have the same problem. Her pediatrician told us just last week the some people have allergic reactions to mosquito bites and tend to itch much worse than other people. He gave us a cream called Elocon that you put on right after the bite. It works SO well. You use it and the itching totally stops. I sure wish I had that stuff when I was a kid! I just thought I'd mention it. I hope you had a great time at Disneyland!

Thanks for all the tips. We didn't see one mosquito the whole time we were there. The trip was awesome. And oddly enough...one of DD's favorite areas in California Adventure was "Flick's Fun Fair". I found that so ironic. But she specifically asked to visit that area several times during our visit. Go figure. Personally, I did find "Heimlich's Chew Chew Train" really cute.
