Bugs are taking over the BLT! The walkway from the Contemporary to the BLT are infested with bugs all over the walls and ceiling. It's really disturbing. They only started showing up yesterday but today it's a nightmare!

EDIT:
Updated for Picture

Forget the walkway, they are covering all of the BLT... They look like mosquitos!!!

The Love Bugs are back!

Love Bug season is May and Sept, not Nov. I wonder what's going on?

For some reason the last two weeks we've been invaded by flies around here. They are everywhere and everyone is complaining about them. No one has any idea where they're coming from this time of year.:confused3 They aren't this bad during the summer when they are supposed to be around.

Is it possible these could be mosquitos? My family got eaten alive this trip even though we didn't see them biting us. I myself have about 10 bites on my legs and ankles.

I will post a picture of these on the wall when I get home.

There was also a separate incident where I had a swarm of bugs around my head. It was about the size of a basketball and the bugs were a little bit bigger than gnats. I saw a couple of swarms of these bugs during my trip.

Is it possible that they were midges?

Midges look like giant mosquitoes and they come in huge groups. They like to sit on cars and windows...no idea why. They like to be on land, but always near water. Have no idea why that, either.

Midges are extremely annoying bugs, but they don't usually bite.

I saw a lot of them at Disney a couple weeks ago. I heard a lot of people complaining about them, too...most of these people were calling them mosquitoes, but they were looking at the midges.

They were about a quarter of an inch long. They were all resting on the walls, but I didn't notice them on windows. The were mostly on the walls and ceilings. They covered the solid railings ont eh walkway connecting the BLT and the Contemporary as well as just inside each entrance from the walkway. The entrance from the walkway to the BLT had the ceiling covered, which was just gross waiting for an elevator there.

The picture I'll post will show how covered the walls were, but I don't think we'll be able to tell what kind of bug it was. I killed one inside my room, which looked like a mosquito.. I wish I took a picture of that.

They were all over the CR bus stops and walkways. The garden wing and pools
were infested too!!!! We checked out this morning and now OKW has bees everywhere lol.

Omg.....they are absolutely everywhere at BLT! Poor DS7 is a bit of a chicken when it comes to things like that, wouldn't even go on thr walkway from Contemporary to BLT. I had to take him down to the lobby and around past the bus stop to the front of BLT. Then, when we went to the pool, all the chairs were covered in bugs! I love, love BLT but the bugs are a little disturbing!

Just be happy it isn't palmetto bugs! Nothing like a bunch of flying roaches the size of helicopters to take the joy out of a trip! lol.

sorry about the midges

I keep hearing about the bad bug problem at the moment. Friends of my family emailed my Dad today saying how horrified they are about it, it's their first WDW holiday in 10 years & they spent an awful lot of money. Their youngest son is apparently covered in bites. We feel so awful for them. :( :sad2:

What on earth is going on?

Can you post pics? I would like to see what kind of bugs they possibly could be.

Ugh! Bugs that bite are a nightmare for me. Biting bugs love me. I hope they are gone soon!

Found this on you tube. No close-ups but gives an idea of size.

Nobody can really predict a bad year for insects unfortunately. Disney is not in a dome and can't control it. No amount of money paid for a vacatioon will stop them either. :thumbsup2

Oh no! We were just there in Sept. with all the love bugs. We are going down in a few weeks. I hope these guys are gone by then. Ugh!

hmm... do they look like ants at all? But with wings. I am thinking they could be flying ants. Living in florida across from the beach, i see new types of bugs every month. The perks of being a floridian!:lmao:

UGH! I'm glad they didn't get into our room that bad... I only found 1 and killed it. That's them though.

I just looked up "midge" on google images and saw this close up:

It looks alot like the bugs I saw, another image of the infestation that was similar to the BLT:

Sorry I don't have my picture up yet, I'll tryto do so soon.

We are here at BLT, too. The first floor walls and ceilings are covered in these flies. I ran into a CM who was vacuuming them from the walls and asked him about the bugs. He said that every few years they get hit with this migration (his word) so I'm not sure if they originated elsewhere. He did say they were harmless flies.

If they did bite, I would have welts as I have slight allergic reactions to bug bites.

We must stop other species from looking like they might affect us. Please say no to non humans.
