Bugs Land?

I have a DD3 & am planning on spending time here since I know it is age appropriate. I was wondering if it opens the same time as the regular park hours? Also, does this area get very crowded(going May 8th)? Is there any tips specifically when in this area? Thanks so much again for everyone's help!! I know I am asking allot of questions & there will be more to come!

My best tip is to honestly really look around (especially up) and notice all the details of this area. It is really amazing, take a long look at the bathrooms for example, it is a box of animal cracker cookies! There is alot of details everywhere here, like little things such as paperclips as sign supports... go discover things from bug's point of view!

It does open at the same time as the park, and i didn't find it busy when i was there in october we could walk onto the rides, no problem. It was somewhere you could spend 2-3 hours tops... it was fun but nothing OMG stay all day kinda great! But my son enjoyed it so that was what was important... but he is evil kanevil the 4yr. old and liked all the big scary rides better , so we didn't do the bugs life rides over and over....

Our 2.5 year old had a great time in this area - especially the water play area right before you hit all the rides. We knew in advance that he'd want to play there so we brought spare clothes and just let him go nuts. He got completely soaked but had a wonderful time. The rides were all very cute and appealing for little kids.

The themeing is amazing, everything is done very cleverly. I think you'll all enjoy it.

DS went on Heimlich's chew chew train 8 times in a row in December. And that was just on one visit to bug's land...I've lost count of how many times I have been on it. In a row. I think I'll start a count; there's a guy on the Theme Park forum that just hit 1700 rides on Expedition Everest, so I think I'll start the count for Heimlich's. Note: the signal to the CM for "can we go on it again without getting off?" is to put your hand up, point your index finger with the rest of your hand in a fist, and circle it like "around", with a questioning look on your face. Sometimes I wish I didn't know that...

Word to the wise....on the little bumper cars, it's a rough fit! I'm not tiny but I'm not drastically big either, and my whole body goes into a charlie horse trying to contort myself so I can push the pedal for the ride to go, while on it with DS. DH can't fit in there at all with DS, the restraint is up around DH's armpits. And no one runs into each other anyway (unless you get some rowdies or a big family), so it's not really "fun" anyway, IMO.

We haven't seen the "tough to be a bug" show yet, I hear it's pretty scary for some kids, and so far I haven't wanted to show it to my boy yet. Maybe this trip, maybe not (it's his 4th b'day trip and his 5th total trip to DLR!).

We love bug's land so much more than Fantasyland....

Its a nice a quiet area. Dont forget to bring your kid's swimming suit so they can go play in the water!

I took my DD8 to the It's Tough to be a Bug show when she was 4 and she hated it. She started crying during the show because it scared her. Now at 8 she still has no interest in seeing it again. So that is the only thing I caution against. If you child doesn't mind creepy crawly things they should be ok but if they are easily spooked you may want to skip this attraction for now.

No, no opening to TOT. It's a Good Thing that there is only one entrance/exit. I wouldn't mind if they put a gate up there, either. Makes me much less nervous and more relaxed, knowing if E disappears that one of us can rush to the entrance/exit to look for him, and the other can look around the land for him. Having two exits would be icky. It's why bug's land is a little oasis for us!

What ages would you say this land appeals to? We've been in it once, a couple of years ago and though I vaguely remember the rides I don't recall if it's something that my girls would continue to enjoy. They will be 4, 7, and 9 when we go in October. If we decided to send the 7 & 9 yr olds to do bigger rides while one of us went with the 4 year old, how long do you think it might take to get through the rides before we met up with them again?

My kids LOVED the shooting water area. I think we spent like 2 hours there. They did not want to leave. We are going in Nov. this time so I am guessing it will be a bit cooler so they might not enjoy it so much, but then again...

This brings up a question. At some water play areas they require some sort of foot wear (i.e. water shoes or flip flops).

Is there a shoe rule at DL water play areas?

There's no posted rule about bathing suits. It just makes sense.

Here, I won't make you go searching. This is what can happen in the main water play area across from the bathrooms.

I knew about the water area, I wanted him to play. I brought a total change of clothes down to underwear and socks. Except I forgot about shoes. I also forgot a towel.

The CM cleaning the bathroom suggested I use a changing table disposable thing, and that worked very well. Much bigger and softer than a paper towel which I was eyeing when she noticed me. But I'd bring a towel next time.

And the shoes were a problem b/c E got a little chilled in the water, and he didn't like being barefoot or even in his socks. Instead of going all the way back to the hotel, we just bought him an expensive pair of Buzz Lightyear tennis shoes in Greetings from California.

Bring extra shoes.

My DD8 was interested when she was 4 (in everything but It's Tough to be a Bug as I mentioned earlier). Otherwise we did everything else. Our last two trips she was 6 and 8 and we didn't even go in the area, she just had no interest. More interested in the roller coasters and thrill rides than the kiddie rides that are more of the focus in a Bug's Life.

I also remember it wasn't very crowded, might have been the first place we went that day and we got through all the rides in about an hour.

We did this too at WDW. . The kids got soaking wet, but dried off pretty quick in the Florida sun. We'll probably let them get a bit wet at Bugs Land too, and then just wear their wet clothes until they dry off. Three swimsuits, three extra outfits, and three extra pairs of shoes gets to be a lot of stuff to haul around to the parks, especially just for 5- 10 minutes of running through fountains.

Wow, my kid was *freezing* once he was done playing. His lips were turning blue he was so cold. And this was in September, when I see twinspluscade and (before) dhlovesbelle are going...

If we hadn't brought clothes, we would have had to go back to the hotel.

Word to the wise....on the little bumper cars, it's a rough fit! I'm not tiny but I'm not drastically big either, and my whole body goes into a charlie horse trying to contort myself so I can push the pedal for the ride to go, while on it with DS. What a waste of good space...... they are so slow, don't bump, takes forever to be loaded and unloaded, and it's a short ride. JMO though... LOVE BUG'sLand.....Hate the Bumpercars.
