Bugs in the Parks?

Look at my counter...only days to go! I've read about people bringing bug spray/wipes for the evenings...is this really needed IN THE PARKS? We are staying at ASMU and other than traveling to/from the parks, I don't plan on being out and about in the woods/grasses. My kids are prone to BIG mosquito bites though, so I'll bring some wipes if we really need them. Any thoughts?

You realize that the parks are outside, right? :p

Yes ... there are bugs in the parks too. Unfortunately, the mosquitos don't stop at the gates just hang out in the wooded areas. With all the people, perfumes, hairsprays, sugar, and sweat inside the parks, not to mention all the trees, flowers and foliage, it's a virtual feeding ground for mosquitos. Now, you won't see as many within the parks proper as you will in the less populated areas of property, but there are plenty there still. Bring the bug spray.

:earsboy:

we have gone in june july and august we have never had a problem with bugs but have seen others who do . we did see a snake while sitting on curb waiting for a parade

SNAKE!?!? EEK, last year I was fretting over the crocodiles that everyone (except me) always sees and now I have to worry about SNAKES!?!? Give me the mosquitos

Okay, I'll take the bug wipes! Thanks for the head's up. Do the mosquitos all wear Disney attire, too?

Yup. And teeny-tiny nametags .... :p

Hello

We have never had any problems with bugs at WDW in the guest areas. They must spray or something.

We go quite often too during different parts of the year.

Don't worry.

I've always commented on the lack of mosquitos throughout the parks. I'm sure they do a LOT of spraying.

Anyway, it really depends on how you are with bugs. My wife gets eaten alive by bugs (although not while at DW) but I rarely get bitten. I'd bring them, just in case...

I've gone in July and never had a problem with bugs, never even thought about taking bug spray.

Maybe the mosquitoes just love me but I got at least 12 bites while waiting for and watching Spectromagic in 5/03. My husband sat directly behind me and didn't get one. I guess I'm just extra sweet! :flower1:

I am the one that as soon as I walk out my front doors the bugs yell"SHE'S HERE GET HER". My DH never get's bit. When we are at Disney and that is quite often I have never been bitten. as the previous poster said they have never thought about taking bug spray.

I don't know for sure, but from taking tours I don't think Disney uses sprays for the bugs. They use natural ways of controlling them.

Disney does use natural methods to control the bug population. See, I learned something from my August trip to the Animal Kingdom Park! There was a CM with a HUGE spider (tarantula?) at the entrance to the park, and he explained that they do in fact use natural methods. Let's just hope we don't see any tarantulas strolling the parks on bug patrol!

Beware of BEES though! DD got stung at the Animal Kingdom last week. OUCH!

my legs got chewed up last week...standing in and around fantasyland

I still have big welts from the bites

I just found a combo lotion of bug repellant and sunscreen .. and it's wonderful for the parks. I found mine through Avon .. but I've seen other brands at several drug stores. We've had trips where we've not had a single bite, and others where we've been eaten alive. Especially watch those boat rides .. like from the TTC to the Magic Kingdom, etc. And watch the sweet smelling lotion. Have fun!

I went in July of 2000. Never saw a bug the whole time. But others have been eaten alive. So I'd bring the wipes or spray, and if you need it you'll have it, if not, they don't take up that much space.

Disney uses carbon monoxide traps for mesquito control. The skeeters are apparently attracted to carbon monoxide. This way WDW doesn't poison all the water and threaten other wildlife with pestasides.
