I've stayed at WL in Nov, Dec, Jan, Mar, June, Aug and now Sept. I remember the Mar and June trips having a lot of bugs, but wasn't sure what to expect in Sept. I don't remember the Aug trip being too bad. But, we spent our first night at WL last night and . We went to Hoop Dee Doo, and on our way back I got a bug in my right eye, and then another. Then I got bitten on my left lower eye lid by something that caused my lid to swell pretty badly. Also I have bites all over my neck and arms. We had several creepy crawly visitors on our wall when we got back to our room as well. I would recommend bringing the bug repellent with if you are staying at WL and even Ft. Wilderness. We started our trip at AKL, and it wasn't anywhere as bad as WL. But, I think it's all the water that causes it to be bad over here.

Are they mosquitos? My DD and DH swell up bad from mosquito bites. If its been really wet, thats probably what they are.

I was just there a week ago.....no bug issues at all. The love bugs were in evidence, but they don't bite that I know of. Never had any issue with biting bugs.

You are probably talking about the infamous Florida "Love Bugs".

I was at Disney World last week and on Thursday they came out in full force.
While we sat in our lounge chairs around the pool, they were all over the place.
The water was the only safe area...lol. Most of the time they just fly around you, but they sometimes land on you and will go right for your drink cups if they are not closed top. It made it virtually impossible to enjoy food poolside.

They don't bite, so that was probably mosquitoes that bit you at WL.

I had to stop at the local car wash as soon as I arrived home on Sunday as the windshield and grill of my car were covered with Love bugs.

The good thing is that they only last for about a week and only appear in force twice per year.

I just returned last Friday from a ten day stay at WL. There were more mosquitos than normal, but we've had a very wet summer so that is not surprising. Just mosquitos and lovebugs around the lodge though. Nothing out of the ordinary for September.

I like the Off individually packaged towelettes for bug repellant. You can easily carry one or two with you, and only apply when needed - as opposed to a lotion or spray that could leak when you carry it and is much messier to apply.

The bugs have been mosquitoes, and yesterday I saw two love bugs (what I thought was centipede the night before from a distance). The mosquitoes are horrible over here at WL though. I would bring something to protect yourself if you are allergic. I am horribly allergic to them, but it's too late now for me (dramatic pause)...
