Bug Spray??????

Vanilla extract? Is that really true? I always thought that the sweeter the scent, the more attractive you were to bugs. I've heard that sugar intake also has somthing to do with bug attraction. (If going to certain areas of the world, travelers are advised to curb sugar intake two weeks prior to departure)

Did you read an article about the vanilla extract? I'd be interested to know how you learned about this, and more details. :sunny:

Thanks for any information you may provide! :Pinkbounc

Wow, that's terrific if that really works! DS and I are both sensitive to all the chemicals in traditional insect repellants...we'll give it a try!

Thanks!

I'm sensitive to alot of different chemicals, too. I've never had a reaction to Bath & Body products yet, so I may try the vanilla extract idea myself. Another thing that's good for warding off bugs is Avon's Skin-So-Soft.

I can't remember exactly where I found the tip on vanilla - I think maybe at a natural foods store or something. Anyway, I can just say that after trying it, it really does work.

Also, another thing I didn't know was that mosquitoes Love Bananas so don't carry one of these in your backpack and don't eat them on a day that you'll be spending alot of time out of doors.

I hate the yucky feeling of bug spray on my skin, so use the bug repellant bracelets. You can get them at Wal Mart (back in the lawn and garden area--not with the bug spray). Put one on a wrist and one on an ankle and they work great.

I tried those last year, unfortunately I was REALLY allergic to them. I don't know, I think it was a combination of the plastic and the bug reppellant, I'm not usually allergic to the spray. I had a very attractive red raw ring around my arm and ankle for a week or so...no bug bites though!! I think there is a kid specific version too. Test them at home before you try them at the park, if you are the sensitive type!!
