Bug spray.....

just going over my packing list..... we leave a week from Friday.... are the mosquito's bad at this time of year in Florida?? I'm sure with all the standing water from the hurricanes they must be..... do I bring my bug spray??

They are bad... bring bug spray and or wipes.

We just got back from our two week stay and I thought the bugs were pretty bad. Usually I don't have a problem and don't mess with bug spray but this time I was bit several times and so was ds. I bought a "family" spray w/7% DEET while we were there to use and it helped. I think the key with DEET products is to get one that is strong enough so you only have to spray it on one time a day (Since it can be toxic if put on too often). I always made sure ds was bathed between applications (he's only 17 mos old). The reason I only use products with DEET is because it's really the only thing that works for me. I guess the bugs really like me!

I was reading on the camping board about using a dryer sheet like Bounce will keep the bugs away. Several people have said that it works great. Like wrapping it around the beltloop or something not literally wiping yourself or anything. I am going to try it here in New Orleans and see how it works.

It does work.... we use it up here in Ontario when we are camping b/c little ds swells bad with bug bites..... the skito's up here are bird size... we grow em big!!lol
