So here we are at the last minute and my mom started to freak out about West Nile while we are on our trip. I'm from an area of California that never, ever had mosquitoes. Now where I am now we need spray. She's thinking she has to rush out and buy spray. Is it really needed at DLR?

I don't think you need bug spray. Disney does keep the areas around their bodies of water very clean and mosquito free!

I didn't think we needed it but she has to start freaking out about something to keep her mind off the flight I guess. LOL

I'm a complete bug magnet and very allergic to bites. When we were at the parks in May, I did get bitten one night, one time. We were there for 9 days so if you wanted to be extra cautious, you could use bug spray. With those odds though, I'm not going to bring any. :)

I have seen this type of post on the Caribbean forums, Hawaii forum's, but never on a Disneyland forum.....
I think you are safe, Disney takes care of these things, you never see fly's or bee's either....... ;)

Try to have fun...

Funny you mention this because in my trips ( may x 2 and late september ) I never saw much in the way of bugs at all. Even wasps which seem to flock to sticky garbage cans here in Vancouver have been all but absent on my disney trips.

Like many people, bugs can't afford the real estate prices here in California. We send them all to Oregon instead. ;)

OP, I have never noticed any bugs at the DLR in my many times being there. No bites either. For us, it's been a non issue! Have a great trip!

I am a mosquito magnet and have never had a problem with them at DLR.

I am also one of the lucky few who attracts biting insects (my mother used to say it's because I have sweet blood) but I have never been bitten at either DLR or WDW. I don't know what kind of nuclear-powered insect spray they use, but it works.

I think you will be okay...

but as an aside, they are spraying in my neighborhood tonight (I am in NorCal), the first time in YEARS.

This thread has come up at the funniest time for me. I am riding home from our canada day fireworks where my husband just got eaten alive by the mosquitos. He has complained to me for the last 5 minutes, and at the end of his rant he exclaims that he only likes watching fireworks at disneyland because he never gets bit there, probably because it is so magical at disneyland that mosquitos are not allowed in the parks!!

It has not been my experience needing insect repellent, while visiting the parks. Perhaps the landscaping has something to do with it, where there may be plants, flowers maybe even trees that contain naturally occurring insect repellent, that and or the area is sprayed throughly with chemicals.
On a similar note, I realized the other day that my allergies never bother me there either. Imagine that. Seeing how they are seasonal.......every season.
:faint:

We noticed on our last trip there were no flies in the petting zoo!! If there weren't bugs there, I think you'll be fine!

Coming from Northern Canada, where mosquitos bite you morning, noon, and night during spring/summer, - insects of any kind have never been a problem for us in Disneyland over the past 12 years. We marvel at how 'bug free' Disneyland seems to be! With the exception of wasps and bees in the flowers, or the occasional fly, I am positive you do NOT need to bring any bug spray. :goodvibes

I'm a local and bugs especially mosquitoes love me. She won't have a problem here. :)

I believe what she is attempting to say here is that since bugs and other pests love her so darn much, that they will all be following her, which is great for us, but alas not for her. :faint:
