Bug Spray mid-June?

I've never been to California mid-June, so I was wondering if bug spray is necessary for this time of year. We're going June 12-17th.

I hate that stuff, but I'll bring it if I have to. I hate bug bites even more. Any advice?

I've never used bug spray down there. Never had a problem. Actually never use it here either. My in-laws live near Sacramento and in the evenings they tend to have misquitos but that is the only place I can think of where I might suggest bug spray.

I've lived in Southern California for 9 years and have never used bug spray nor even considered it. Bugs just aren't a huge problem here. I have gotten the sporadic mosquito bite, but nothing too unpleasant. :goodvibes

Being from Nebraska I always take bug spray everywhere, but in the two years I've lived in California, I've never needed it.

I have heard there lots of bugs in DCA. In fact I saw some huge ones on one of the rides. What was it called? Oh ya, "It's Tough To Be A Bug"! ;)

I do not think bug spray will work for those bugs anyways, and aside from those there are no bug issues in SoCal.

:lmao: Hydro Guy, that's funny!

I'm so glad it looks like we won't need it. I LOATHE that stuff. Thanks for the replies.

If you have sweet blood, mosquitoes may find you, but not so much in DLR (because there are not too many situations where you would be stepping into grass or in shallow pools of water in DLR). I am a mosquito food bank and I come away from DLR unscathed.:rotfl2: Besides some random bees flying around every so often and an occasional critter hiding in the foliage, there is not much to worry about on the insect/bug front in DLR, as they do a pretty good job of keeping things meticulously tidy and immaculate. In other parts of SoCal, however, if you have sweet blood in summertime, watch out - the mosquitoes will get to you!! We have tons of fruit flies everywhere in SoCal, too, but those won't be a problem in DLR.

(I once passed by a guy in line for the Monorail who had a big roach trotting across his chest, over his shoulder and onto his back - I think it must have come from some bushes, but he was not reacting to it at all. Either he somehow didn't know it was there or he was treating it as a pet!:rotfl2::rotfl2:) At least we don't have giant flying roaches like they have in the South or anything!!

I lived in Houston for four years and am bug and critter paranoid. Sounds like this will be a (pleasant) walk in the park.

Bugs? What are they? (I'm a CA girl!) :cheer2:

You must not have lived in the area of SoCal where I lived for all my life! It was a seemingly nice, clean sort of basic middle class neighborhood with decent apartment buildings and homes everywhere, but, for some reason, during the summer, big honkin' roaches were scurrying around at night outside. You would have thought it was the slums! Ick ick ick ick ick. I hated coming home late after a long evening because I knew I had to walk up on the porch and see the bugs scurrying away. And they were all over the neighborhood, but people thought they were mainly outdoor pests so nothing to worry about...until they would find their way inside, that is!:scared1:

You won't need it at DLR, but if you are planning any beach trips while in So. Cal, you might want to pack some - especially for the evenings.
